Trick (1999)
A Warm Hearted and Funny Movie!
I really like to watch a lot of gay themed movies and was kind of suprised I hadn't seen it the first time around. I rented this on a slow Friday night for me and was pleasantly surprised. I figured this movie was only going to be about one thing, getting laid. It actually has a lot more going for it. The scene between Mark and his friend Katherine was really nailed down great. You could see in a way he hated to be so harsh with her but it had to be done. Gabriel and Mark also made a nice looking couple. I hated the fact in a way that their "problem" wasn't solved at the end of the movie. But at least in a way you see Gabriel more as a person with heart and not just some kind of floozie. I wholeheartedly recommend this movie even if you don't regular watch gay themed movies.
All Over the Guy (2001)
Great movie for the expanding Gay/Lesbian genre of movies
This movie at least really doesn't play around with the gay stereotypes too much. I have seen some films that have went over the top with the stereotyping i.e. "Kiss Me, Guido". I know how the mannerisms are inside the Gay/Lesbian culture, but still a film can be funny and not go over the top.
"All Over The Guy" does just this and gives you a healthy dose of laughter. This film reminds me of the movie, "The Opposite of Sex". I give "All Over The Guy" two thumbs up for showing gays in a positive light. I recommend both movies to anyone gay or straight.
Pecker (1998)
A Coming Of Age Movie
I had never watched many of John Water's films with the exception of Cry-Baby one of my all time favorites. With a name like "Pecker" I didn't know what to expect out of this movie. I was laughing through out the film. This story works on two levels, one as a comedy and two, a coming of age type of story. The main character just wants to get out of his boring daily routine and live life the way he wants to. When fate lends a hand there are some totally unexpected results. One thing that bothered me was the gay stereotyping that popped up throughout the film. But on a grand scale this film really works. I would recommend this movie to anyone that wants a good laugh.
