Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024)
drama that lacks drama
For a show that starts with a ridiculously dramatic introduction to the characters, and over-the-top dialogue, that promises revenge, trickery, deception, and charisma, Heeramandi lacks the passion, emotion, or depth from both the plot and the characters to be what it's aiming to be. How could I be impressed with the set or the dresses or the threatening lines when it's mostly just that, taunting, trash talk, a show of power that didn't end up standing out in the plot. The characters can stab each other in the back ten times, angrily throw stuff off the table, and the next day it doesn't matter.
If the characters were supposed to be complex that wasn't how it seemed to me, I didn't feel like the characters were going through the change but they were tools that changed their motivations and personalities because we need them to
The plot depends on characters doing stupid things so it could happen, especially toward the end of the show.
So many plotlines are thrown into the story just to have zero impact, the clash doesn't happen, hundreds of strings that lead to nowhere. And the characters stare at the camera and give monologues and hope it sticks. It all feels very superficial, a copy of a copy, to me Heeramandi wasn't a wasted potential, there was no potential.
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
6/5
There are elements that i appreciate about this show, it's not my favorite of the series even though i can see the build up to this and understand it. It was way too on the nose for me and the goofy bits and cartoonish characters kinda turned me off at some points but overall it was a satisfying watch. Really enjoyed the ever amazing Carla Gugino. But the story dragged a lot for me even though this has been so many people critique with the netflix series, this one is the only one where i really felt that the formula isn't working that much for me, but that's also me not being the biggest fan of monologues.

Even 3 is pushing it. This was so bad I'm beginning to doubt i watched a different movie than what everyone else is describing. What a downgrade from kabir singh. They wasted so much time on random stuff, more than 3 hours and here i am asking myself every second when will the "story" kick in but it feels like they forgot to do that or add depth to the characters; and I'm not a person who looks for a "purpose" in every movie that is really not my point when i say there wasn't anything going on i really mean there was nothing. Nothing feels natural, the quirkiness, the edginess, none of it was really delivered.
