Living Hell (2008)
finally some imagination past zombie obsession
The premise and support for much of the argument of the movie is decent unlike that of regular SciFi fare. Given that zombie, slasher etc type flicks are the films usually shown on SciFi, this movie deserves consideration simply on originality. Much of what was suggested wasn't too far fetched and more reasonable than the basis of most of the movies that get the usual 3 or 4 rating. The acting is still terrible and James McDaniel seems to be the only competent actor in this project. Still, if movies in this genre worth a 0 get a 3 or a 4 instead then this movie deserves at least a 6 and thats what I'm giving it.
2012: Doomsday (2008)
i made it through 15 minutes.....
.....somehow i thought that should be an achievement. now knowing that others have made it through the entire movie makes me feel less than adequate. i gave this a 10 because it is so incompetent that there must have been an effort made to get it to this level. so i do appreciate the effort made toward this negativity. i have never seen a movie fail this badly - its a work of art. unfortunately you have to watch it in order to know how something can be this bad. reviews won't do it justice. a bit of a catch 22 but its worth the experience. if you don't make it to 15 minutes then please post it so i feel better through secondhand pleasure.
Sunshine (2007)
with the usual fare how does this get a 7.3?
I suppose it's the touchy-feely nature at the end of one of the main characters saving his family on earth by completing the mission and touching the sun. Of course, the touching the sun, guy from prior spacecraft surviving and mutating, etc., all this is pretty stretched as far as I see it. Worst of all is the degeneration into the standard monster movie. I guess Hollywood is incapable of any imagination lately and all scifi movies end up as pseudo-horror flicks - not much horror though given the one not-so-intimidating villain. Take a page from Space Odyssey or Solaris please and get some real scifi done. Thankfully I decided to get some work done while watching this movie. So I can't say I wasted my time.
Severance (2006)
movies should learn from this
i have been on IMDb countless times but this time i registered as a user just to rate (and comment on) this movie. its amazing in a nutshell. the actors are very talented, the plot is a great one, and the flow never leaves you in a lull. the dark humor picks on everything that's cliché - and in a most apt manner. the acting, even for the bit parts, was professional all the way. even when i passed the halfway mark with the movie, i was pretty busy still trying to figure out the very last detail (although some people may figure it out earlier), paying attention to what is going on, and at the same time being distracted by the action. i have never been so gripped, in so many ways, by a movie. splendid job.
