The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
If it makes you uncomfortable, take a look at yourself
Well, this is - simply put - one if the best single episodes of a TV series I've seen on the screen. For those saying 'it's something that's not big in the game' here's a tip... They need to expand on many things to make this a full series, and if you're not comfortable with the relationship story expounded on in this episode that says more about you than the show.
It's a very powerful depiction of humanity and emotion in a dystopian world where such a storyline would not be expected. Kudos to whoever decided to expand upon this part of the story, more to the writers and director/s, and even more to the actors involved.
A 'conventional' (for want of a better word) love story in this context would have been nothing but filler. This episode, while lately an adjunct to the main storyline, was almost worth standalone status.
Criminal Minds (2005)
Slow and gory. If that's your thing, great, but it was too much for me.
I was really looking forward to this return, but it's just too much. The first two episodes are way more gory than I remember most episodes of the original show being, and as a cumulative effect it's over the top. The acting's good. The character arcs work with the main characters all further developed from the original series, but did it really need the clichéd director lording it over the BAU?
There needs to be more resolution sooner, and less graphic violence.
Mandy Patinkin was dismayed by the violence inherent in the original series - although allowing for the subject matter, there has to be some - but this goes further than the old show ever did.
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: The First Day (2021)
Please, don't be a peanut.
Plenty of peanuts writing reviews criticising this episode for daring to be set in the current environment.
These people obviously never watched, well, dozens of the old episodes. About chasing Al Qaeda, or other terrorist issues.
(Or they're just brainwashed by some idiot.)
This episode was very touching.
So please, enjoy it. And don't be a peanut.
The Goldbergs: Eracism (2020)
I hope there's an apology coming for this episode
The Goldbergs used to be funny. And on occasions when it wasn't funny it was often poignant. This episode is neither and I can't think of any redeeming features.
Counter Play (2016)
Wow. Truly appalling. Legit contender for worst TV show ever to come out if Australia.
I just stumbled across this in syndication/repeats on late Saturday night TV here in Australia.
The fact it has earned a second run is a pretty good clue as to why free-to-air TV in this country is at death's door. It's awful. The test pattern would be more animated. The acting would be better if it were potato puppets. And yet this gets shown IN REPEATS.
Don't even think about it. It is that bad.
