Wilderness Survival for Girls (2004)
Excellently made, surprisingly good indie film.
I was given this DVD by a friend along with a bunch of others, all low-budget exploitation films. I actually watched this one last, because the title made it seem the least promising. Boy was I wrong! WSFG was by far the best, and deserves to receive a fair amount of acclaim.
The cast of four is all excellent and perfectly cast. (It's fascinating to see the screen tests that show each of the three actresses reading a different part than they were ultimately given, and seeing why the casting decisions were made.) This is a seriously intended and excellently acted teen thriller, which still contains some erotic scenes and nudity -- though the players are still well thought out and given a depth of character. This film is definitely to be recommended. Special praise to the young actresses who should all go on to bigger roles.
Jacqueline Hyde (2005)
Fun and sexy, plain and simple.
Anyone who critiques 'Jacqueline Hyde' as anything more than the playful and undeniably erotic romp that it's intended to be is just not playing with a full deck. Just from the title, it's obvious that this low budget horror comedy isn't meant to be taken seriously... it's as tongue in cheek as a nympho's french kiss, and just as titillating. The female cast members are all great and fun to watch. Check this out, Rolfe Kanefsky is the clown-prince of soft-core horror. Unlike most soft-core horror flicks, this one is entertaining all the way through with charismatic and exceptionally attractive actresses. The movie doesn't even attempt to follow the storyline of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, but instead seeks out every way possible to create risqué sight gags and erotic situations. Blythe Metz, the brunette femme fatale who portrays the sexier, homicidal side of Jacqueline, is a real knockout. Watch and enjoy!
Night of the Dead: Leben Tod (2006)
Crazy, gory fun from beginning to end!
Anyone who DOESN'T get a kick out of the gory high-jinx of "Leben Tod" must have made a wrong turn on their way to the Merchant-Ivory film festival. I loved this movie, even when it made me a little queasy. actually, I wasn't sure if I was queasy from the gore (of which there is literally wheel-barrels full) or from laughing so much. The mad doctor is great, his sexy zombie wife is great, his little zombie daughter is really great! And yes, as another writer posted, the pregnant wife of the doctor's son is totally hot.
Anyone who grew up on low-budget horror movies like I did should definitely check out this movie. Eric Forsberg is a mad genius.
Point Pleasant (2005)
Elisabeth Harnois rules!
I absolutely loved this show. It was the one show during the time of its run that I looked forward to every week.
Elisabeth Harnois and the rest of the cast were great, and the story got better and more intense every week.
Sadly, this was one of the most poorly promoted and scheduled television shows ever... no one ever even knew about it! Giving it one of the worst and most inappropriate names ever didn't help either.
I suppose some thanks should be given for the DVD release.... at least I'll be able to see the episodes that were STOLEN from me when the show was AXED because of network STUPIDITY.
Witchcraft III: The Kiss of Death (1991)
Stay until the end!
Sure, this is a standard, cheese ball, demon-lover story with a little tease, but the saving grace of this flick is lovely Lisa Toothman shines charms throughout, but saves the best for last. This is one of those actresses who incites one thought all the way through: Damn, I hope she has a nude scene! And she doesn't disappoint. What a joy to see this girl-next-door type flaunt her Big Naturals before the closing credits! Lisa deserved many more bad movies with award winning nude scenes. Her big scene is all the more satisfying because of the cat fight she has with her witch rival. Lisa, thank you for leaving us this legacy! I recommend fast forwarding to just the scenes with Lisa in them
À tout de suite (2004)
Ugly cinematography, and painful to sit through
This film was so terribly BORING. The 'lovers' are boring, insipid losers. Ratso Rizzo was an engaging unforgettable interesting loser. These characters are just flat, cardboard idiots with no reason to be filmed. They deliver almost all of their lines in flat whispers and monotones. The wannabe suspenseful scenes have no suspense... in fact I didn't realize certain scenes were supposed to be suspenseful until I looked back wondering what this movie was even trying to say or do. ALL of the would-be exciting action takes place off-screen. Characters come and go with little explanation. 'Location' scenes in foreign countries have no character or appeal. Really, NOTHING about this film has appeal, except for the obligatory nudity of the lead actress and the wasted looks and acting of the female co-star. The cinematography is grimy, poorly lit black and white. I warn everyone, save your time and your money. This film is UN CHIEN! The audience I saw it with groaned when it ended.
