DamNation (2014)
Well crafted and visually beautiful documentary
I was really surprised that I enjoyed this documentary so much. The information about our nation's abundance of damns, and the negative environmental impact they have had on the landscape and the indigenous wildlife was shocking to hear and see. Perhaps in the world of environmentalists this is common knowledge, but for a person not entrenched in the cause, like me, it was a compelling argument to learn more about the subject and to get more involved. The cinematography is a highlight of the film, and the information is delivered in a manner that kept me interested the whole time. This is definitely a film worth checking out.
War of the Worlds (2005)
2 stars because its only the 2nd worst movie this year.
I don't know what I was thinking when I went to go see this movie. I knew it was going to be horrible, but rottentomatoes.com cost me $8 and 2 1/2 hours of my life with its 80+ rating. That being said, if you like the Revenge of the Sith (the worst movie of the year) - you'll probably like this movie as well. Crap story, no real emotional motivations, lack of charisma, bad writing, and did I mention crap story. All great elements for an excellent summer blockbuster, ripe to make hundreds of millions. Since no paid critic will say it - Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Cruise, Warner, and anyone else associated with War of the Worlds and or Revenge of the Sith has been reduced to peddling crap. Thanks, I enjoyed the $20 worth. I'm just too much of an optimist that I thought maybe you big names had some unique talent to offer.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
What could have been
This has to be the most money and effort ever put into such a horrible script. The dialogue is ridiculously inane, the character motivations are manufactured, and the acting is less than second rate. I wish I understood how people can enjoy paying over $10 to see a movie where the second most charismatic character is a robot, R2-D2, that can't speak. If George Lucas does the final three installments - he should make them comedies. For a while I thought I walked into the sequel for Spaceballs. Of course, the acting was not even that good.
The worst part about Episodes 1, 2, and 3, is that a chance to make a spectacular new trilogy, rated among the best ever made, is forever lost. Tonight I shed a tear for missed opportunities. Lawrence Kasdan where are you?
Charlotte Sometimes (2002)
Worth a look
Charlotte Sometimes can be hard to watch at times because it feels like very little is happening. What I like about the movie is that there are moments when you can feel complete empathy with the characters, even though they do not always express their emotions in words. Through pacing, acting, story, and directing, the audience is allowed to feel the emotional impact of every action and absence of action. If you can allow yourself to imagine the internal tensions of the characters and forget about the details of the story, you might just enjoy Charlotte Sometimes.
100 Girls (2000)
This movie is hilarious
The only way you will not enjoy this movie is if you take it seriously. It is supposed to be stupid. It is stupid. If you do not laugh at this movie, you have some lightening up to do. Definitely a winner. The casting also deserves some credit. If you are too stiff too laugh; enjoy the view.
