A Cold Grave (2024)
Roger Makes This
A really fun movie overall, but truly carried by the great fun that Roger brings to these films. Now that he is established as a multi-film character, I'm excited to see if we get anything else with him, whether they be prequels, sequels, or other unrelated adventures of Roger. Aside from that, they are the typical issues I find with movies, such as moments were a character says or does something that contradicts something already established, but since these are still movies coming from a relativelyt young company, those kinds of things will eventually get caught more consistently in post. All in all, a good movie, with above average acting, and worth the sit down and watch, especially with friends.
Horror in the Forest (2023)
A Pleasant Surprise
A movie that really improves on previous attempts by having characters that feel more logical in their decisions, fears, and actions. Still has room for improvement but is definitely moving up in the world. Jumpscares are few and far between but used effectively enough that they may catch you slipping. But more than anything else, at the end of the day the best thing about this movie is the acting feels like that of long time professionals. Despite this being an independent film with actors that have mostly minimal acting credits this film feels like the actors are seasoned veterans with a lengthy history in the horror genre.
Forest of Death (2023)
Good for what it is
This was my first DBS Film, and in all honesty, I had a good time. Did I have my problems with it, sure. But to be fair I have issues with almost everything I watch. There are definitely things I would have done differently, and because of the slower pacing I don't know how much focus I would've been able to maintain if I tried to watch it by myself, mainly because of my own attention span issues, watching it with friends was an enjoyable experience. Would I make changes? Yes. Would I recommend this movie to people? Also yes. Only "major" complaint if I had to make one would be that sometimes the characters ignore information they've been given and make decisions that us as the viewer look at as stereotypical horror trope decisions, something I wouldn't mind seeing less of. Hoping in the future (or in other DBS movies I just haven't seen yet) they decide to make characters do smart, "non-typical" things, even if those things don't work the way they want to. Failure on the good guys part is never a problem, but "stupidity" just makes me cheer for the bad guy.
