Dune: Part Two (2024)
Read The Book
I recently watched the highly-anticipated "Dune 2" and, unfortunately, I left feeling quite disappointed. To put it simply, I felt like Chani, and by the end of the film, I wanted nothing more than to leave the theater.
From a technical standpoint, "Dune 2" is undeniably impressive. The visuals are stunning, the world-building is intricate, and the score by Hans Zimmer is otherworldly. Director Denis Villeneuve clearly poured his heart into bringing Frank Herbert's complex universe to life. However, despite these admirable aspects, the movie fell short for me on a personal level.
The first issue I had with "Dune 2" was its pacing. The film takes a slow-burn approach to storytelling, which, while it can work in some cases, left me feeling restless and disengaged. The numerous exposition-heavy scenes and long stretches of dialogue felt like they dragged on forever, and I found myself frequently checking the time.
Additionally, the characters, while well-acted, felt distant and difficult to connect with. Timothée Chalamet's portrayal of Paul Atreides was competent, but I struggled to invest emotionally in his journey. The supporting characters, although portrayed by a talented ensemble cast, didn't fare much better in eliciting my empathy.
The narrative itself, laden with political intrigue and dense lore, was challenging to follow. While I appreciate the ambition behind adapting such a convoluted source material, the film sometimes felt more like a series of beautiful scenes strung together than a cohesive story.
Ultimately, despite its technical brilliance, "Dune 2" left me feeling unsatisfied and frustrated. As the credits rolled, I couldn't shake the feeling of wanting to leave midway, just as Chani did. It's unfortunate, as I had high hopes for this cinematic adaptation, but in the end, it simply wasn't for me.
Beyond Paradise (2023)
Run DI Humphrey Goodman
I know these shows are fiction but I feel so sorry for DI Humphrey Goodman. He once lived in a beautiful island paradise with beautiful women, sunshine, and was falling in love with Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey. Now he lives in dreary Devon and is in a relationship with a beautiful but weak, whimpering local woman. If DI Humphrey Goodman was my best friend I would tell him to run, run as fast as you can back to that island and leave behind this miserable existence. Get your old job back and convince Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey to return. Then he can live happily ever after in sunshine with a beautiful wife and beautiful work colleagues. Goodbye Devon forever.

Do you do the whirlybird?
This is one of the most fun movies I've seen in decades. I love it love it love it. Hi for one hope they bring this crew back and make two or three or four more it was that fun. The acting was spectacular. It didn't take itself too serious and I really enjoyed how they made the movie.
I guess I just enjoy movies that are fun and exciting and also have cats. In a world as divided and hateful as the one we live in, it was a wonderful break to sit and watch this movie and just relax and have fun. My message to Apple is please please please please make more versions of this. I will be there to pay for the service to watch it.
Mystery Road: Origin (2022)
10+
I didnt think anything could be better than Mystery Road but this "Origin" story has done it. The pacing is slow but methodical. I enjoyed the entire cast and the production. It sucked me in and Ive since watched it 3 or 4 times. I wish they would make more. It's one of the best shows I ve ever watched. The tension between the rich whites and the native people is fascinating and enjoyable to watch. The series is so much better than anything else on the tv it's just sad. Make more of these. Bring back the entire cast and give us more of this story. I think there is much more to tell and I'll be right here waiting.
Manhunt: Pilot (2024)
I'll Pass
The show's representation of the events surrounding the search for a criminal lacks depth and fails to provide meaningful insights into the involved individuals. The character development is superficial, and the dialogue often feels trite and cliché. The pacing of the story is inconsistent, leading to a lack of suspense and engagement. Additionally, the series' attempt to sensationalize the true events comes off as exploitative and undermines the gravity of the subject matter. Overall, the new Manhunt series misses the mark in delivering a compelling and thought-provoking narrative, leaving audiences wanting more substance and authenticity.
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (2024)
OMG! So bad
As remakes go, this may be one of the worst I've ever seen. Apple what in the hell were you thinking to put this on your streaming service? This goes beyond just bad. You would have to intentionally try to make this thing bad to be as bad as it is. I'm canceling Apple TV and I'm never coming back if this is the kind of crap, you're gonna put on. This one show makes Netflix look like the world's best bargain. Apple, you seriously need to hire some people that know what they're doing. The team that's responsible for putting stuff like this is wasting your money and turning away your clientele. I'm shocked at how bad this remake can be. I just can't imagine this could be done by accident.
Mea Culpa (2024)
Did Anyone Take Writing Credit?
Did Anyone Take Writing Credit? If so, they must be separate for attention because this is a total mess. Sure Kelly Roland is nice to look at but it feels like the writer listened to the Serial Podcast and decided to write a movie.
The strange sex scene and bad acting combine to leave the viewer bored, irritated, and wondering who is the audience. Well, it's 2024 and we know who the audience is and I predict they will love it but a wider audience will hate it.
Im sure it will get a pass by the critics because again it's 2024 and you better not trash a movie made for this audience. I would have been happier if they just focused on one aspect; is it sexy exotic thriller or is it a murder mystery.
I feel the writer tried to do both and failed at both. If you write a thriller then at least dont be so predictable. This was Hallmark Channel bad. One reviewer asked if it was an AI generated script. I wonder if they are correct and the writer took the easy way out. If so, just tell us and we will view it as such. But a big thank you for Kelly.
Invasion (2021)
Dislike it
What a boring movie. Within 30 seconds I was ready for that entire family to get killed by the aliens. Everywhere they go they scream when they're supposed to be quiet they move when they're supposed to be still they're the worst people on earth you want with you in a disaster unless you want to get killed by aliens and then take this family with you because they will get you killed. And the aliens, how many episodes do I have to watch before I see something? I feel like it's the invasion that never happened. Move on to other science-fiction movies. There's so much better out there than this. And they actually had a season two what a waste of money.
Superpower (2023)
Penn Goes Where Others Will Not
Sean Penn amazes me with his dedication to showing the world these Russian atrocities.
Im sure the MAGA deplorable will hate this film because it makes their precious Putin look like a war criminal when he bombs kindergartens, playgrounds, and schools. But to the compasionate educated Americans left in the world I'm sure this will be a great viewing.
Sean charges into bombed building without a care and is one of the most human of stars I have ever witnessed. Americans need to wake up and stay clear of authoritarian figure like Putin and his American asset Trump. If Trump wins in 2024 American democracy will die and the world will become a very dangerous place.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Great Fun
Some movies are made for the elite sitting in their fancy high-rises wanting to feel poorly about themselves and America. Yes, The Killers of the Flower Moon comes to mind. They are long, boring, and make you feel dirty.
Then there are the movies that take you away on a fun exciting journey. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is one of those movies. I reallyy liked it. All I had to see was that Kurt Russell and Anna Sawai were in the movie and I was onboard and ready for the journey. Let's face it Anna Sawai is a true beauty and a great actress. Kurt Russell is a legend.
Get onboard and enjoy. Its a wild romp though the monsters of our youth and a great deal of fun. The USA does its usual lets blow them up routine to perfection. Loved the CGI, the acting, the writing, the sound effects. A wild ride and I enjoyed it.
Monsieur Spade (2024)
Greatness Every Sunday
I'll start with the obvious; Sam Spade was always too great of a character to not continue and Clive Owen has found a part too perfect for his acting skills. I literally can't wait until each Sunday when a new episode is released. It's nice to sit and enjoy adult topics, great acting, and a great story. Enough with multimillionaire kids hanging out in a coffee shop or living room with an obnoxious laugh track every 14 seconds.
This show is a throwback to the days of great story, great charachters, great atmosphere, at an intriguing time in our human history. Also great writing which in my humble opinion is the downfall of most modern shows. Im all in on this show. It would be such a shame if this is a one and done series. Please make more.
Echo (2023)
Terrible
The trailers made this seem like an action packed show similar to Daredevil. Instead all we got was a disjointed Iron Fist. I could never have imagined how bad this show is. Do you think throwing in a few sprinkles of Daredevil and the Kingpin would be enough to make up for poor writing, poor pacing, poor editing, and poor acting?
I had to leave the show 3-4 times and go back to the episode list thinking I fell sleep and missed something. It's just all over the place. And Kingpin at a pow wow? Just very poor show all around.
Alaqua Cox is a true beauty. That was the only thing I can find to say I enjoyed. Please try again. Or better yet bring back Daredevil.
The Brothers Sun (2024)
Im Here For Michelle Yeoh
Im here for Michelle Yeoh. Im staying because this is a high quality, very fast paced, funny, exciting series. I hope it can keep up the pace for the long run. The fact that Michelle Yeoh has "the clapper" on her beside light makes me love her even more. The fact that the brothers nickname is "charley" is hilarious. It seems that Asia has much better movies than America these days and Im okay with that. The action is great. The jokes are funny. Overall this is a great series and Im having a blast. They even mix in enough romance to round out the entire show. Watch it and fall in love with Michelle Yeoh and a great series.
Seungriho (2021)
Im Late To The Party
Yes I m late to the Space Sweepers party but it was a great party. What's not to like about this film? It is 100% escapism at its finest. I was swept away in the fast paced action and color of this film. Every character had something to give. The villain robots were cleverly done and looked very cool. Normally I tend to watch a more serious type of movie but I found myself really enjoying this film. Koreans are beautiful people and have a great sense of humor and it shows in the interactions between the main characters when they finally meet "the bomb". Both charming and funny. If you are looking for a fast paced thrill with humor and sensitivity look no further. Or just add it to your rainy day watch list and let it sweep you away into an interesting fantasy.
The Sinner (2017)
4 Seasons = Ups & Downs
Season 1 deserves 10 stars. It creeped me out More specifically, that younger sister creeped me out. Season 2 deserves 9 stars. Great story and lots of humanity and compassion. Season 3 was a 1 star. Harry was the worst cop on planet earth. Season 4 was better than 3 but still a mess. You can tell when a show was originally made with one season in mind; they run out of gas quickly and that is what happened here. I guess it's just the nature of things that all the important ideas went into the first offering and it just slowly dies more and more with each new season. So my advice watch Season 1 & 2 then find another show to enjoy. Season 3 will just make you angry.
Reservation Dogs (2021)
Why?
Why would the creators of this wonderful show walk away at this time. I'll bet you end up like many who walk away from success, that you regret it years down the road, when your success has evaporated and you try to revive the show and it will fail. You are riding in the tube now. Don't exit this now. I love the show. I could spend all my days with Willie Jack, Elora, Jackie, Bear and Cheese. But it's not meant to be. Well, when you do bring it back I will not be waiting. I will have moved on like all the other fans. This show has great characters. Depth of character. Funny moments. Sad moments, They are like family. Thanks for letting me down after lifting me up for three seasons.
Stay Close (2021)
Really?
OMG they should call this movie. DS Michael Broome never answers his phone. I know they write these stupid scenes to drag out the show to make us keep watching. But come on! Just how stupid do you think we are? The show had some good actors but the writing was so poor. Broome was always having sex or sleeping when he missed important calls that could have saved lives and ended the show in 3 episodes. And the killers? Really? They were so cartoon like it just made the entire show worthless. Movies like Pulp,Fiction had interesting characters but Stay Close was ridiculous. The head policeman was killed,at the police, station in broad daylight and not a single witness in sight. What a waste of time.
The Killer (2023)
Keep Moving
I spent the first 20 minutes watching and listening to a "Professional" hitman running through all his little checkboxes on how to be a SUPER HITMAN only to watch him fail and fail again. He went from being a professional hitman to being a joke. Did he do anything right? Plus, this movie is very boring. Lots of atmosphere and lots of internal dialogue but not much else. I finished the movie only by hitting the 30 second speed up button many times. There are many alternatives to this movie. Do yourself a favor and find one of them. It is a shame because the premise of the movie was good it was just the lame hitman in the movie.
Bodies (2023)
You Got Me
I was sitting around yesterday watching football and getting more bored by the minute when I started scanning and hit on this show Bodies. I will admit this is my kind of show. I enjoy dark, complex, scjience fiction. I enjoy comics, graphic novels, and shows like Doctor Who. Codie's drew me in quickly. It is a bit long but I watched it from start to finish and enjoyed it tremendously. I enjoyed the 4 main characters of the story line. They are each so very different but the writers made each character interesting and sympathetic. I'm glad this is a one off series and there will not be a Season 2. Bodies deserves to live by itself and not be watered down each year with less and less interesting story lines. Bravo! Well done. I thank you very much as I'm sure hard science fiction fans will as well.
Shrinking (2023)
WOW! Just WOW!
It has been a long time since I've enjoyed any show this much. It really caught me off guard. Now Im hooked. The entire cast is great. The pacing is great. The writing is great. So far not a weak link anywhere. Every character can stand on their own. Usually every show has a few "man walking dog" characters but not here. I'm interested to know more about these people. Everyone of these people. They have depth and are fully developed characters. I just want to say, Apple please surprise me with more shows like this and Ted Lasso. They stand alone at the top of tv today. Been a long time since I couldn't wait for the next episode. But here I am waiting for the next one on Friday.
