Silent Witness (1996)
Had a good 20 years but past its prime
Plots may be a bit farfetched and hard to believe that pathologist really get into the weeds of investigating a case, but makes for a good story much of the time. A 2 hour show allows for the story to be fully developed, as time goes on it generally turns in one main story with two secondary story with each of the 3 main character taking one story. Acting is generally very good with good staging.
It had a good run for the first 20 years when it was clear that the writers began grasping for storylines and they became just too unbelievable. They also moved away from the 3 story lines with each of the 3 main characters heading up one of the stories. It then came the Nikki show and she just can't carry the full show.
Don't bother after season 22. The shows needs either a complete reboot or to be put out of its misery. It had 20 good years.
Hailey Dean Mystery (2016)
Not much to it
Well, it is an old school mystery that has no adult rated scenes or violence that you can watch with your kids, as long as they are under 10. Anyone older will be bored. Definitely a Hallmark kind of movie.
I sat through one (well I fast forwarded through one) as I kept hoping it would improve. The plots are stale, full of holes, unworkable timelines, incredibly stupid criminals, and over acting. Most of the actors look like they are in a silent movie and using excessive facial expressions to compensate for lines that are cliches.
It is actually so bad that it is actually kinda fun. It makes it more of a comedy than mystery.
The Other Wife (2012)
Full of cliches but interesting
Series should have been cut to one episode If the cliches and plot twists that weren't needed were cut it would be a cleaner plot with a tight 90 minutes of run time. Of course the overdone music is too much also. So much of the acting is either over the top or completely flat. Clean up all the plot/ script/setting goofs of which there are many would have helped also. Of course the question remains on how so many people are clueless over so many thing and make so many bad decisions.
It is kinda sad. The basic story had promise but was destroyed by a bad director and producers that tried to turn it into something it isn't.
With fast forward to turn it into one hour of total run time it was sort of fun.
A Beautiful Place to Die: A Martha's Vineyard Mystery (2020)
I gave up on it
Don't understand the good reviews.
Bad acting, lots of minor holes in plot/actions. Couldn't decide if the characters were stupid or writer was just lazy. Definitely lacking any chemistry between characters even though there was supposed to be some. The characters definitely have too much time on their hands with a lack of things to do related to a job. It also seem to know how to do anything immediately. Ie, identify the problem as a fuel filter and replace by hand in less than 30 seconds,
Lots of unrelated subplots where attempts were made to poorly connect them.
Just couldn't see where it was going to get any better. I could see all the plot that was coming. It definitely felt like a Hallmark movie.
