Poirot: Appointment with Death (2008)
stay away
this whole Hercule Poirot series (Miss Marple as well) is famous for their distracting plots and distortion of the original context but "appointment with death" must be by far the worst of them of all. Agatha Christie's body must have turned inside her grave... isn't there a law or something against the distortion of books... one can understand why they changed the place given the fact the murder takes place in Petra but changing the murderer(s), changing how the crime was committed, adding characters which only distract more than adding and helping the original plot; and talking about themes which Agatha Christie always hesitates to mention are simply insults to Agatha Christie and to her fans... this is simply a movie which uses Agatha Christe, Hercule Poirot and the famous novel/play but its only relevance to them is to destroy and insult the masterpiece and authors name... to producers, director and screenplay writers: stick to the theme, you may not be aware but the world loves this author and her stories the way they've been written and not for what you've created in your own imagination... if you do wish to write and direct your own stories ,do it, leave Agatha Christie out of it!... shortly, stay away, stick to the book!...
The Countess (2009)
not a usual historic tale....
this is very well made, true to the history, geography and atmosphere of the place where the story takes place. also very well played, esp by Julie Delpy who already is known for her convincing but modest acting. Costumes and art decoration were superior. The story was told well too, considering it's telling a rather controversial story and that the main character is an anti-hero.Still it's very successful in reflecting the controversies in history telling and discussions about historians, heroes and storytellers by saying they're the real devil. Watch it definitely and compare it to other historic movies, you'll sense the difference...
