Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Brilliant move that should have done better at the box office. A missed opportunity.
In a nutshell, this movie was incredible and deserved to do better at the box office. It's a light-hearted romp with a good story, an incredibly likeable cast that clicked naturally with each other and some very faithful D&D fantasy mixed in with wonderful effects. It ruly was much better than people gave it credit for and I blame whoever decided to schedule it between John Wick and Super Mario Bros for it's poor showing. Whoever that was needs to be fired because it's absolutely a crying shame that this movie didn't get the attention it deserved. It was that good! Now that it's on digital and hopefully streaming soon, I hope people will give it a chance. It was one of the best movies I've seen in a bit.
Cunk on Earth (2022)
Hilarious and worth the time
What an incredible series. I have not laughed like this watching a comedy show in a long time. Bwhaha...if you are a fan of history and have any clue as to the subjects Cunk is talking about, you will bust a gut laughing so hard. And even if you don't, it's still fun. Cunk is incredibly adept and professional...her deadpan schtick is spot on. And what's even better are her chosen interviewees who are either the most incredible experts become actors I've ever seen or seriously unaware of how ridiculous she actually is. Some of their expressions had me rolling on the floor with laughter. This is fantastic. I love it. I quite literally laughed out loud so many times throughout the series. Give me more! Definitely a worthy watch!
BigBug (2022)
Better than the reviews given...
This is one of the most quirky yet highly enjoyable if not slightly creepy movies I've watched in a while. Great effects and a unique story with a bit of sci-fi, robot mutiny, and eclectic storytelling. Fantastic performances by the cast. A great soundtrack that's been well scored. I loved the creepy Yonx androids. Not everyone will enjoy it but man, this was cool to me. It's a French movie so I watched it with subtitles as the performances are better but there is an English dub that actually changes the way it feels especially the androids. Almost like watching a tweaked version of the original as it feels way more menacing. I highly recommend it if you like unique movies.
Night Court (2023)
A promising start that just needs time to gel...
Night Court 23...I really enjoyed the first and second episodes! It really had the spirit of the original show. The sets look so familiar and inviting due to the nostalgia and they absolutely nailed the commercial breaks and intro/outro. And hearing Dan yell HARRY! Had me in tears...it struck a huge nostalgic chord within me.
The cast is great and you can see that with time, this will be a fantastic show. The first Night Court series needed time as well but eventually turned into a solid hit. And filming in front of a live audience is brilliant, too. A lot of people think it's a laugh track but it's not! They said in one of John's interviews that it's filmed in front of a live audience!
I hope NBC gives this time to gel because I think this can be my new show to replace B99! John Laroquette is worth the price of admission alone but I can already see the interplay between cast members becoming a great enjoyable romp. The new bailiff is great and Judge Stone is so like Harry. Optimistic and endearing.
I hope that people don't just look at the old series with rose-tinted glasses and think that this can't do better. I think it can and I hope it's given the chance to grow its legs. Give it a shot!
