Tornado Glory (2004)
not much science, a lot of drama
31 March 2008
I was throughly disappointed with Tornado Glory. Having lived in Oklahoma and attended University there, I thought that this documentary would have been on par level with the scientific insight that the University of Oklahoma is known for, particularly in regarding severe weather reason. It wasn't. Instead, it focused on persons who had personality conflicts with one another spliced in with generic storm shots. Not to sound totally cruel, but Uwe Bolls films are known for this type of style, so this is something to consider for Mr. Coles next production. Anyway, the life of storm chasers is not very interesting, after all, they are just people. If this documentary would have channeled that focus in to more of a scientific interest, then it would have been more intriguing rather than tedious and garish.

Elephant (2003)
Meh
1 November 2004
As someone who has lived in Portland, it was lovely to see the scenes of beautiful Portland in this movie. This, however, is the only indirect positive comment I can give this film.

Actually, I remain neutral to this film because it did not tell me anything that I already didn't know. The one thing that I hated in this film is the video game scene. The association between violent video games and school shootings is absurd. One can play violent video games all they want, and not be tempted to shoot people in some sort of facility. For example, I play FPS games all the time, and yet, I have enough intelligence to know that you can't go out willy-nilly and just kill random people. I think the perpetrators of school shootings are quasi-retarded in their lack of ability to distinguish between reality and fiction, unless they are schizophrenic. I can also attest that the victims of school shootings are not always so innocent. Yes, it is a wasted life but if one keeps pushing someone in the corner, that cornered person will eventually fight back. Animals do this so it is not really surprising.

Lame
5 August 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Manoj, you failed again. Please stop making movies.

"The Village" Blah blah blah... political allegory, terrorism, the creatures aren't real, elders keeping the dullards of the village in line, colors on clothes representing terror levels, the movie doesn't even take place in the 1800's but rather in the 1900's, changing dialogue. Blah blah blah.

More drivel from a self-important man.

Trash

This movie was the most insipid piece of garbage I've seen in quite some time.

Lets have a new rule: Movies should be made by film makers and not some hackwads like Bruce La Bruce and Rick Castro who think they are talented since they can hold an 8mm Sony camera in their tiny hands.

Seriously. The acting was horrible. A retarded jellyfish with a very busy schedule could have delivered more for a presence then the no-named actors in this movie.

I would rather get a table dance from Trent Lott than sit through this stinkburger again.

Kill the Americans
11 March 2004
Despite the animal killings, this movie had a smooth overall flow. While a little hard for the more mundane to accept, it had at least continuity.

I was SUPER glad the Americans got killed... and killed VIOLENTLY. Good. Serves them right. They rape, burn down the village, and kill the tribes food. What goes around comes around.

When you think about it, its really hypocritical for people to be offended by the animal scenes. How many cows are killed each day for meat? Exactly. By the way, I eat meat so actually the scenes looked tasty. I would give turtle a try.

7/10 as far as I'm concerned.

What kind of idiot would allow their wife to get into a truck of an complete stranger. Seriously?

"Oh darling family member, why don't you go over to the Dahmer house and ask for some eggs, I've heard he makes great BBQ."

Seriously.

Then on top of that, he drives a perfectly good Jeep into a river for no apparent reason. Seriously.

The Fluffer (2001)
Crap

This movie sucks .... You fill in the blanks. A rant.

First off, who gives a flying rats butt about the personal and psychological development of porn stars. People watch adult movies for only one reason.

Most people would not care if the adult stars died tomorrow. Porn stars don't have anything good to say so they should never talk. End of rant.

This movie is of pure superficial hogwash. So apparently, as a gay person, they only thing there is in life is to become a complete alcoholic and be obsessed with athletic beef guys who possess a 10year old mentality. Hogwash.

The adult industry deserves no more respect than what its very basis in details. Period.

Emeril Live (1997– )
Annoying Hunchbacked Little Man
19 October 2003
With the exception of some of the dishes he prepares on FoodTV, Emeril is my least favorite show on the network.

Emeril needs to talk less and just cook. I am not interested in his personality. I just want ideas for new meals.

He must have a tick or Tourette's Disorder because he constantly makes weird humming noises. Also, salt is called salt. It is not called Essence.

Lastly, most people cook with Garlic, minced onions, and butter combinations. This is not something new from Emeril

A grade "D" at best just because Emeril ruins the presentation of the dishes with his idiotic personality.

Great 80s romp in the wonderful world of Camp
30 August 2003
I like this movie despite its low rating. It represents horror movies of the 80s so well with its camp and low budget special effects.

This is one of those "so bad it's good" bad movie.

A bucket of hot and steamy excrement
24 August 2003
What a terrible movies this was.

Leto and Foster sure took a dive when they signed on this crappy contract. They could have done much better with another movie. Such high acting ability wasted.

The plot of this movie is idiotic. So there is the "panic room" that people keep their 22 million dollars in. WHY!?!! Ever heard of a bank? Generally institutions like banks provide a much more elaborate security measures and safety..... Locking yourself in the same house with burglars who have guns is generally not a good idea.

Boo!

Not that bad
22 August 2003
The movie was actually not that bad. A "B" movie, but it was certainly unique and at least, watchable.

While the plot is simplistic, it provides entertainment on a still and balmy summer night.

I actually known some people who think they are pseudo-intellectuals and see a dead cat as artwork. Well, whatever. I just smile and act agreeable towards those Swoozy Kurtz types of people which were so prevalent in this movie.

Yes this was from the head of Roger Corman, but at least it is not Ed Wood <shudder>

Lastly, this aired on Showtime of all places... Good to see that my expensive cable bill per month justifies such wonderful movies like this at a premium subscription.

Dead Like Me (2003–2004)
Great Dark, Cynical, Quasi-Macabre Comedy
19 August 2003
Dead Like Me is a great series. I love it for the fact that it is a dark comedy. I like the sort of cynical and apathetic attitude that Ellen Muths' character has.

Christine Willes is great in a disturbing way. I like her character for some strange and unhealthy reason.

They should have kept Betty... Daisy is just annoying.

Lastly, this is not like Six Feet Under. They are totally different concepts. Anyone that says SFU is like DLM can "STFU".

Clue is a great film of comedy and is highly entertaining. It casts a several decent actors/actress who did a good job in this film.

The film is very funny. It has a ridiculous plot but is great for several laughs.

As a true Nightmare On Elm Street (NOES) Fan, I found this movie entertaining and was surprised that it was a more than half-way decent movie produced by Hollywood (the surprise being that American Hollywood hasn't produced a good horror movie in a long time because of over-used CGI effects and lame plots).

I was biased and was rooting for Freddy because I prefer the NOES to the Friday the 13th series. I think that Freddy is more creative with his death routines, which I find this adds charm to his character. I also liked the surreal dream sequences, which Freddy vs. Jason had.

The ending was a little predictable, but was a nice surprise still. Without spoiling anything, I can easy see American Hollywood producing another horror movie centered around Freddy or Jason, especially if the money comes in on this flick. "Sad but True" it seems.

Kelly Rowlands' character was very annoying and I was not impressed with her at all. She should stick to her lame music because her character was rude, ignorant, and plus Kellys' acting skills were less than to par. I think she should have been "whacked" first.

The rest of the characters were average to slightly above average in their respective acting skills. Nice surprise from Robert Shaye from New Line Cinema!

As a true NOES fan, I give Freddy vs. Jason a 9/10.

MST3K Episode #910
1 August 2003
Wow. This one hurts. Don't want the original un-MSTied version or your eyes will probably burst into flames...

This movie comes from Canada, need I say more? A banal movie. One of the protagonist is named "Zap Rowsdower". Lets throw in the label Stupidity with the aforementioned banal bit.

Anywho, Troy and Zap fight some dumpy hood-wearing canadians, meet an old prospector who has a wire brush in his throat, and save the legend of the Ziox society.

The MST3K comments on the movie are a riot and this is a very good episode of MST3K that I recommend to anyone to watch. Crappy Movie. Good Heckling.

10/10 for MSTied version.

Okay
28 July 2003
Nightmare on Elm Street 4 (NOES4) was an okay movie. The dreamscapes were interesting (the car lot, the movie theater, the cockroach shot, and the final part where Freddy is "killed"). I think that the dreamscapes in NOES6 were a bit more interesting and artistic.

It is nice to have all the NOES3 characters coming back and meeting their demise. Too bad Patricia Arquette did not return to be Kristen Parker.

7/10 for NOES genre.

Idiotic
26 July 2003
Friday the 13th is a idiotic movie. It is boring. A bunch of teenagers, of which whom there was no real character build up - or should there be because there is not much to build up on, drink beer, have lame sex, play strip monopoly (see idiotic bit), and get murdered.

The only good thing about this movie is that it has Tom Savini as the SFX guy. I appreciate Savini and his work (particularly in George A. Romeros' films)

Also, Nightmare on Elm Street is so much better and creative than FT13. I hope Freddy wins in Freddy vs. Jason.

I know a lot of people hate NOES6, but I for one, think it is pretty entertaining. Personally, I think NOES5 is the worst one of the seven movies (not including Freddy vs. Jason).

One thing that I *love* about this movie is the scenes and sets. I think NOES6 has the most "surreal" dream scenes. I like the beginning scene with the house falling (a homage to Wizard of Oz), the old house at 1428 Elm Street, and the various dream sequences that lead to the deaths of the various characters.

Now the bad stuff. Well this movie does not follow the events of the other NOES movies. But who cares! You can't take the NOES series seriously for Jebus sake. Its a horror plot - enjoy the outlandish and creative ways the antagonist kills his protagonist(s). That and the acting is pretty campy.

As a NOES fan, I enjoy this movie and consider it mindless and entertaining. It adds a twist to the other movies and helps in a positive way for the surreal dream sequences.

I give it an 8/10 for the horror that is Nightmare on Elm Street series (NOES series).

Donnie Darko (2001)

Needs more explaining
19 July 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler Alert! I am half on liking this movie, and half on really hating this movie. So let me explain:

Hate: I hate this movie because it is poorly explained. It is a convoluted plot based on metaphysics and abnormal psychology. Donnie is a schizoid and is loosing touch with reality, so be introduced to the bunny. Well, this goes along with the poorly described bit, but the bunny is never really explained. I found the bunny to be annoying. I was praising that the death of the bunny would expedite itself quicker. Towards the end, I found myself also glad that Donnie was killed. I told you this was the hate part of my review.

Like: I like this movie because it is not your typical crap that Hollywood likes the throw out at conformist America (see T3 for example). This movie is an emotional rollercoaster and does require a bit of intelligence to understand the plot. This, however, is difficult because; starting a movie, going throw a fake dream, and ending up at the beginning of the movie doesn't evolve into a continuous and moving forward plot. It is a mobius strip. It ended were it started.

I liked the fear component of the movie. I think fear is a limiting factor for a lot of people and basically tells me that humans are scared of being alone. I did like this subplot about fear being the price of our instrument.

I give this movie an 8/10 for being different and quasi-thought provoking.

Fulci Lives!
16 July 2003
Time to pay hommage to Lucio Fulci..

The movie is pretty good. It does have an interesting plot although it is strange that voodoo would cause someone to turn into a zombi. I think that is using ones enhanced ignorance of other religions to turn it into something of evil. I have investigated voodoo just for curiosity sake and it seems like another other religion. Anyway. I digress.

The special effects are advanced in considering when this came out... In the 70's, it was rare for a movie to be so overtly violent. I did happen (See Taxi) but gorefests like they have today were rare items at best.

There was talk that Lucio Fulci and Dario Argento had it out for each other from the get-go. I can see why. They both, in a quasi-sort of way, have the same artistic directing ability... or ... it can be seen as more creative than most US horror movie producers today.. At least in my opinion. There are exceptions. I do respect Fulci and Argentos' work a tad bit more than Romeros simply for the fact that they are not American and can throw components out that are strange to myself being a pretty straight-laced American. I do think in general, that Fulci and Argento are very gifted and *very* unappreciated, or at least in the American culture.

I would give Zombi or Zombi 2.. whatever you call it....... an 8/10 as for as zombie genre films go.

Terminator 3 was a disappointing movie. I expected more but left feeling unsatisfied.

A few things:

1) Apparently high-ability, super-intelligent machines growl and meow when they are upset.

2) Apparently physics does not exist in the future... The Toyota truck would have not been able to move after a rear collision with another car. The collision were very CG animated... Too CG animated... Just flat out unbelievable.

3) I enjoyed the stock footage of when the Terminators' battery pack "became unstable". I thought that was hilarious that the director used old stock footage from mine explosions (the second battery pack - at the Crystal place).

4) What was with the gay dancer? Stupid subplot. Obviously the director wanted to add humor from past Terminator movies for nostalgic reasons but failed. In fact, the humor behind the whole movie was banal.

5) It is obvious that Arnold is older than 50. Geriatrics is fun!

2 Cliche for 1's Taste.
5 July 2003
2 Fast 2 Furious was an idiotic movie. What kind of person came up with this sort of plot? A simple minded marmot is what I gather.

Seriously... the protagonist has a long criminal record and yet the Florida police waive charges if he helps out captures an evil drug-doer? How stupid does Hollywood thing that we are? The plot is banal, weak, unbelievable, simplistic, moronic, and just flat out dumb.

This movie didn't even feature decent cars, more that 3/4 of the time the cars were CGI enhanced. Also, apparently, real physics doesn't exist in these racer movies because you can hit a sign at 100mph and yet slightly dent your import car. Hmmmm.. F=MA anyone?

I saw this movie free, which If I actually would have paid I would have demanded my money back because this film is utter garbage.

It stars no one and features nothing.

Suspiria (1977)

Unique
5 July 2003
Suspiria is in a league of its own. Dario Argento truly has the artistic directing skill to make environments look scary with use of vivid colors and different camera angles. I love how the movie uses dark reds and greens to accentuate the rooms.

The architecture of the dance academy is impressive on its own. I have never been to Europe but I would love to see the building designs if there are anything like they were in the movie.

The special effects, for todays standard, are pretty outdated but I can easily see how this would be so scary in the late 70s. Most horror movies today (especially produced by American Hollywood) just slap the evil demon together with CGI effects and don't actually use any skill in creating scary moments.

7/10 for horror genre.

A must see B movie
2 July 2003
Killer Klowns from Outerspace is one of those rare "good B movies." This was the first DVD that I ever owned and I am happy with my purchase because I think the film is enjoyable for several reasons, mainly, the whole plot is original.

Check it out today or else the Klowns will come and get you and turn you into cotton candy. Muhaaa!

Boring
29 June 2003
While I understand the premise of how life is short and that one might ask if their life has been wasted away... I found this movie incredibly boring.

I am so used to the old Jack, that I thought he was going to yell out and acting crazy like he did in The Shining or rude-like he did in As Good As It Gets.. But he did not do this so I was left feeling empty.
