Barnaby Jones: Girl on the Road (1979)
Screeching Jenny can't act
I really liked this show in the beginning when plots revolved around clients and not Betty and J. R. This episode features another annoying female character with a terrible voice (close to screaming every word) and worse acting skills. The plot was weak and the characters bland. It was also the negative depictions of marijuana that kept it illegal for so long. The only redeeming quality was the fact that Barnaby has a fairly large part and provided much needed relief from a ridiculous script. The fact that this great show was nearing it's end of run may have factored into weak writing and lack luster acting.
Titanic: Blood and Steel (2012)
Titanic took a back seat to soap opera love
I was really looking forward to this mini series since it was going to focus on the design, planning and construction of this magnificent ship. I tried to stay focused, but the constant bunny trails down the road to romance left me empty. I kept getting the female characters mixed up because they all looked alike (sorry I was not familiar with any of the actresses). I kept hoping more screen time would be given the title character... Titanic. Once the construction of the ship itself was finished I wanted to see the interior features and how the ship was tricked out in all the finery of the day. The ending really screwed up my head too. I sort of figured out that many of the main characters would make the voyage, but even a post script of what happened to each passenger would have sufficed. Drat.
Elvis (2022)
Pure fantasy
I had high hopes for this movie. So much so that I almost went to the movies to see it. I am currently watching it on Netflix DVD. What a mess. The surreal beginning scenes were not entertaining at all. The whole thing just flopped. Silly narration by Tom Hanks was distracting. A total waste of nearly three hours. If you are looking for a quality depiction of Elvis Presley's life look elsewhere. Some aspects of his life were rushed while the fictional parts were painfully drawn out. It finishes better than it starts so I am glad I watched until it ended. The songs were alright but the modern music out of place.
