Defiance (2008)
Defiance
This film, in my opinion was a little long but I did enjoy watching the film, I had never heard about the Bielski brothers before and its truly amazing what they did. It brings home the reality of
survival in a tough environment. The will to live breeds tenacity and hope beyond the impossible. I would recommend teachers to show their students this film as I am sure little to no one has heard about this movie. Defiance was a very action-packed film it showed the tough reality they had to deal with especially when food supplies were getting low. It was quite a shock in the movie when the oldest brother shot the man who was causing all sorts of trouble for them complaining about rations and who is fit to be the leader. I think there should be more movies like this out there I rate this movie an eight out of ten its truly an amazing film. A key part in the movie for me is that they didn't hold back from how rough it was to live in the forest especially in the winter. I hope more people hear about this film or just hear about the Bielski brothers they saved lots of people even when they didn't have too.
12 Years a Slave (2013)
Heart touching
Very good and very hard to watch at times. All of the acting, especially by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong'o, is incredible. The directing never shies away from the difficult moments, leaving shots to linger for far longer than feels natural. One minor complaint is that sometimes this is less emotionally impactful and more boring - especially when the shots are of characters watching or processing the difficult events instead of showing them to us directly. From the moment the movie starts, its title gives you the feeling of hopelessness that our protagonist shares. The emotional moments hit very hard and it's very interesting to see the various attitudes regarding slavery from all of the characters - some are purely antagonistic while others are sympathetic in words but not so much in actions. It makes for a very powerful and relevant experience.
While the content of 12 Years a Slave may be hard to watch, only one watch is needed, since the story is so powerful it will stay with you for a lifetime.
To think that humans could ever act like this and treat people in such a way is truly heartbreaking
Exceptional drama, powerful, disturbing, incredible, a past that should never be forgotten.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Ford on top
I really enjoyed this film by the end - it's a little slow to build plot wise in the first half but the performances by the two main stars (Matt Damon and Christian Bale) are pretty top notch and by the end its really quite gripping. I found myself wishing (while I was watching it) there was a bit more footage of actual car racing in the first half of the film, but I suppose thats me being a bit too lazy and hoping for 24/7 action. To be fair, the film does have some good character development and it is pretty insightful about the corporate story, even though it is a somewhat long film at just over two hours and twenty minutes long. I thought it's a solid film by the end - I found it quite immersive and gripping. If you're a fan of motor racing or like a good biopic (especially a sports biopic) then this film is well worth seeing, yes.
History will definitely make you vibrate. Regardless of the splendid special effects, the story carries a rhythm that is neither straight nor linear, but exciting and intriguing. Cristian Bale made a fabulous and complicated performance.
Invictus (2009)
Invictus
Invictus was a heart touching film to say the least it is so sad what had to happen in that country for it too become a fair country. I loved Invictus I don't even watch rugby but the way the actors played their roles, and the director directed the film was amazing. It was such an amazing film that I give it a ten out of ten it made me feel remorse for those who suffered and had to go through such unhuman times. I think the way they presented Mandela in this film was stunning from the way he walked to talked it was picture perfect. I really wish there was a second movie to it I don't know what it would be about, but I can guarantee that I would love it if its even half the movie Invictus is. I praise the director for the way he portrayed and honored Mandela I hope too see more movies like this in the near future.
Indian Horse (2017)
Good film tough subject
I enjoyed watching this film the scenery was very realistic they didn't try to hide how bad the school was, the acting as Saul gets older isn't as good as when he was a teenager that's why I didn't give this film a 10/10. I would recommend watching if you can sit through a lot there's a lot going on in the movie it's a lot too take In. If you cherish movies that make you feel and think, 'Indian Horse' will give those gifts to you. As a proud Canadian, it forced me to acknowledge some very unpleasant aspects of my country's past. If you go into this expecting a hockey movie, you will be disappointed. Hockey is simply a plot device. The acting wasn't great, which made it a little less powerful. If you want to know the story, I recommend reading the book.
