I searched on Google that best mystery/suspense movies of all time, after watching some of them vertigo is in line.
I watched movie after 65 years of it's release. Story of the movie is Harrowing, Psychological, and Gripping. After Psycho, Vertigo is one of Alfred Hitchcock's greatest films as director.
I liked whole the movie excluding the one thing: Event of murder should be in the climax where John and Madeleine Elster,(Judy Barton) are arguing not twenty minutes before the climax, Because of this suspense of the movie faded away.
I like the alternative ending which can be found on the restoration laser disc.
There is a short scene of Midge in her apartment sitting next to a radio and listening to reports of the police tracking down Gavin Elster hiding out in Europe. As Midge turns off the radio, Scottie enters the apartment, looks at Midge plainly, and then looks out a window. Midge makes two drinks and gives one to Scottie. The scene ends with both of them looking out the window without saying a single word to each other.
Despite Of Climax I'll give 10 star to 'Vertigo' Because of Acting and Cinematography 1. Where the film was introduced to the famous "dolly zoom" sequence sometimes known as the "Vertigo Effect" which got used in various other films. It's basically a forward zoom with a reverse dolly meant to achieve a disorienting effect of shifting perspectives.
2. The view of The Golden Gate Bridge is superb as Kim Novak appears to deliberately try and kill herself in the bay beneath it. Her tour of San Francisco including a church a Cemetary where she visits the grave of Carlotta Valdez whose self portrait hangs in a gallery is mesmerising. She looks lost in her thoughts and James Stewart as John 'Scottie" Ferguson follows her around.
