Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
What a great movie!
I see it goes over some people's heads, don't let that scare you. If you like intelligent funny movies then this movie is for you! The cast is just amazing the story is interesting and weird. Where Cloud Atlas was about reincarnation and taking itself seriously, this movie is about multiverses and not taking itself seriously. I wish there were more movies like this!
The Deep End (2022)
The group think and obedience among "Tealers" is stong
As someone who has followed Teal quite a while ago 2009(?) to 2015 I had always found something was of about her story. From her claiming to have been abused and sewn into a corpse as a child, to driving out into the forest having an abortion by herself on herself and then leaving her blood children in the snow... just to mention a two. What I found extremely appalling was that when her friend was raped she stood by the rapist... and whenever people questioned her she became aggressive telling people they should kill themselves... at the beginning it was easier to ignore some of the stuff as fantasy or unhappy people leaving the community, but after a while there was so much that you had to be willfully ignorant to the damage she does to people as well as to her backstory that was clearly made up. She was traveling the world as a super model in the time she was being controlled and abused, and there are no pictures of her modeling except some quite tasteless naked pictures in bad lighting - there is nothing professional about the pictures. She loves to call herself famous as money, fame and power is what she is after. For someone who teaches others to empower themselves she is really quick at playing the victim at the slightest critique she receives. And you will be shunned from the community if you dare to question her. She a dangerous cult leader who not only targets suicidal people, but also tells people to kill themselves if they disagree with her. The videos her followers talk about are mostly word salad that will make your head spin if you try to understand it. She needs to be exposed and I'm really curious about this documentary.
Resident Alien (2021)
Amazing 1 season, bad choices were made in the 2nd season
Giving this 7 stars despite the 2nd season being a bit of a let down. The 1st season made me laugh out loud so many times, I love the characters and Alan Tudyk is just amazing in this role.
Not sure what happened to the writers and directors in the second season as there is a significant decline in both. The writer keep telling us how Harry is becoming more and more human, despite him behaving even weirder that in the first season. This goes so far that in the 8th episode he is willing to risk Asta's life for pie! It's just lazy writing, creating artificial conflict by dumbing down characters. Not to mention that all of a sudden there is another alien race on earth and it is to dangerous for Harry's people to send someone to come and destroy the humans, however this is told to Harry by an alien (that died months? Ago) via message... How long has Harry been on Earth at this point? This just seems super messy storywise... it's like they didn't know where to take the story so they threw in a completely new plot without considering the timeline. Lazy writing.
I attribute Harry's extreme awkwardness to some bad directorial choices as Alan Tudyk did a great job in season one and as far as I've noticed it is usually bad directing that messes with actors performances.
I am looking forward to the second part of the second season in hopes that the series will recover from the bad choices that were made.
But even if that doesn't happen, I will be rewatching season one and in worst case scenario pretend that season two never happened.
Westworld (2016)
Glorifying Psychopathy
I'm on episode 2 and what I really don't understand is why ALL the humans in this show are psychopaths. How exactly is this supposed to be interesting or engaging? And the whole deeper level of the game for which himans need to scalp an android - it's stupid and disturbing at the same time.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
Unwatchable
I liked the premise and even the idea that it is a dark comedy and the first episode seemed promising... but that was it. During the second episode the main character has made so many stupid choices that I came here to check the rating, which I'm speechless - who gave the great reviews? Do studios pay for ratings & reviews now like youtubers that pay for views?
And why is the Miranda character following Cassie? Breaking into her house? She is the dead guys ex, but also a psychotic super criminal?
There is not one character that would make it worth to continue watching. I'm out.
I feel sorry for Kaley Cuoco as I think they did her dirty. She playing a psychotic, selfish alcoholic who's not even trying to make a good choice for herself or anyone around her. I don't think she could do much with what she was given.
Severance (2022)
I'm wondering: Do the creators know where this is going?
Even after the first season nothing was truly resolved, no arcs were finish and I feel like so many things can go wrong.
With a show like this where many things are left unknown and mysterious the creators could go into the direction of: "Not only can we split peoples memories, but we can bring people back from death (Ms. Casey?), we can transplant consciousness from one body into the other (fan theories about "the revolving")" etc.
The more they'd go into this direction the less interesting it will make the show. I was already disappointed by Ms. Casey being Marc's "dead" wife as I think exploring Marc's and Helly's relationship would have been a way more interesting direction... Also the idea that they (Marc and his wife) were targeted by Lumon, which seems to be the case based on the story so far seems pretty cheap and was disappointing to me. Did Lumon fake Gemma's death? Did they steal her body from the hospital or morgue? Then they went after Marc to enlist him for a severed position just so that Ms. Cobel could purposefully put them in front of each other in order to see if they recognize each other? It's all such a stretch and would that mean that all severed employees were targeted by Lumon (which would be ridiculous imo) or just Mark (even more ridiculous for him and Gemma to be super special).
I really wanted to like the show as I love Adam Scott and Chris Walken and fell in love with Britt Lower while watching the show... but Severance Season 1 left me disappointed. I fear they will just add on more and more weird stuff until the show becomes unwatchable - like Lost did.
I have to say I enjoy mysteries and slow burn, but this show's first season just feels unfinished.
