Mae Martin: SAP (2023 TV Special)

Where's the "comedy"?
28 March 2023
I'll give this two stars because my wife laughed once throughout the special. I didn't laugh at all. Im sure some people hate this simply because it's an LGBTQIA+ comedian. I don't give a damn about that. I just didn't find it funny at all. It starts with a years old joke Mae has told many times before. From there it devolves in to, at times, incoherent rambling. Mae will often stop mid joke and go on a tangent about something completely different. The word "like" is used in almost every sentence. I'm, like, such and such, like, XYZ. I wish Mae all the best in the future, but this type of manic incoherent comedy isn't for me. Mae is all over the place and, in my opinion, makes for an almost unwatchable hour.

Not the worst horror movie you'll ever see
19 October 2022
Not the worst horror movie you'll ever see, but far from the best either. Right off the bat the most confusing thing is that this is all so very obviously shot in the UK, with (mostly) British actors. Why pretend it takes place in America? Something as simple as accurate location and characters with their real accents could have improved things. It's not "scary" really, more like Saw-lite style body horror. If you throw it on in the background while folding laundry or something it's a fine "spooky season" movie, just don't go in expecting anything mind blowing. Most of Netflix's recent series and films have been pretty mediocre, and this is no different.

So boring and predictable.
15 October 2022
This show is very boring and very predictable, like most of Ryan Murphy's shows. I don't understand why he's so lauded as a screenwriter/director. Watched 4 episodes, skipped episodes 5 and 6. I don't feel like I missed a single thing and it ended exactly as I thought it would. There's no chemistry between Dean and Nora, the kids try but they can only provide as good an acting job as the script allows. Murphy had one good season of American Horror Story and since then it's like he's given a free pass. I don't get the positive reviews, this show is so bad and so easy to figure out, even if you don't know the real story (as I didn't). Don't waste your time on this show.

So very dumb.
28 August 2022
This movie is bad, full stop. The acting is wooden from everyone (especially Gillan and Paul). The plot is atrocious and completely predictable. The pacing is awful. And for the weirdest reason, pretends to be in America. It's so obviously not America, most of the cast are British or Finnish, the cars, roads, street signs, and other various background features are so clearly European. Why was this necessary? Set the movie in Finland where it was filmed, or at least the UK. It would change nothing about the plot, except maybe Gillan would be able to use her normal accent instead of the terrible accent she had in this. I think I understand what the director was going for with making the characters all sound robotic, but between that and this trying so hard to pretend to be America, I felt constantly taken out of the movie. I've liked Gillan and Paul since Dr Who and Breaking Bad respectively, but this movie was just terrible.

Just not good
11 May 2022
I love YMH and have watched all of Christina specials, this is the worst one yet. She goes on about how toxic her parents are/were without the slightest realization she's just as toxic. Makes jokes about nut allergies, people being poor, etc. She's just punching down. It's not clever, it's not well written, and most importantly for a comedy special, it's not funny. I still love the podcast but I think this is the last Christina P special I will be watching.
