Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
8/10 for season 1, but it's drops to 6/10 for season 2...
I loved season one. I thought the show was great and the storyline was engaging.
However, with season 2 I thought there were 2 huge problems.
The first was that there was a lack of a strong villain. With the casting change, I found it hard to watch Rosalind on screen as it felt like I had to get used to a new character again. Also, she didn't seem threatening enough AT ALL. Then, the blood witches emerge as the main villain of the season, but again, led by Sebastian, they didn't give me any sense of threat. They could have been written as a much more powerful group by they weren't in the end and it became disappointing.
The second main issue was the lack of action sequences and magic usage. The show is about fairies and magic yet we barely see any of it on screen been used. The action sequences we do get are not very well executed. At some points, I kept saying 'This is quite bad' (eg specialists running at each other to fight in the finale).
The show has promise and I love certain characters so I hope it gets picked up for another season but I feel it's being restricted by a possible low budget.
Fate: The Winx Saga: All the Wild Witches (2022)
the story lacked this season
I loved the first season but I think this season the problem was the villains and also some choices around the action sequences.
I found that there wasn't a strong villain across the entire season. Firstly, Rosalind unfortunately bored me and didn't really give me a protagonist vibe. Also, the blood witches being led by Sebastian didn't make them seem like a huge threat. I felt they needed a stronger protagonist that made them feel like an actual threat to the characters.
Lack of magic/action sequences was disappointing and those that we got were not that strong. Especially in this final episode I felt parts were quite cringey (eg the running of the specialists clashing with each other in this ep). Feels like they don't have much budget to work with.
I will keep watching however as I love the show and I hope they can bring it back for more seasons and bring it back to the vibes of season 1.
Killing Eve: Hello, Losers (2022)
I'm so disappointed!!
I've loved this show from the beginning - loved season 1 and 2. Season 3 was okay but you could see the decline in writing quality. But season 4? Shambles! Jodie comer and Sandra Oh as always were amazing but the story of this season was shocking! Nothing was explained or resolved. Too much time was spent on basically nothing towards any narrative.
This finale however was so so poor. As the series was coming to a close, surely they would of wrapped things up but I'm sat here more confused than ever. The whole show was leading up to them finding the twelve but we got a 30 second off screen shot which revealed absolutely nothing. Also killing off villanelle in the final 2 minutes of the show? I just don't understand and I'm left very disappointed. Laura Neal did not write these past seasons very well at all and it's such a shame.
