Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
It didn't really feel like a Star Wars film
Yes, it wasn't great, was it ... and, strangely enough, the thing that annoyed me most was the vast space monster at The Maw
Power Rangers (2017)
Rather dismal for what should have been campy fun
This was truly sub-mediocre. I have always had a grudging liking of the campy and slightly cheesy style of the Power Rangers and while I'm not a massive fan of superhero/comic book themed movies I can usually watch them just for the pace and fun but this movie had none of that. Nothing. OK so it gets a couple of points for having as its heroes a slightly autistic kid, another who brings in a LGBT aspect, and a brief look at the issues of bullying, of both the social media and standard varieties, which is great for a movie aimed at younger audiences, but these positive points are lost in the interminably lackluster entire rest of the movie.
Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008)
it's bit of a one-joke film, really
It was a huge hit here (France) and I have a feeling it was due to the fact that it was released during one of the rainiest summers in years. In fact it's one of those films that people who should know better go and see and then tell you "it's a lot better than I was expecting it to be" - but it's not.
I also felt like I'd seen all the 'best' parts of the film already thanks to the hype on TV.
The actors are actually OK, though definitely under-used, and once you get past the Joke - the guy from the south not understanding the northern dialect - the rest of the film is very thin on the ground.
It's the sort of film you'd watch on holiday if it's too rainy to go to the beach.
