Bienvenidos a Edén (2022)
Why I went against the trend, 10 stars from me
I actually watched 'The Trip Home' with a sense of anticipation for story lines wrapping up. If there's no Season 2, then I'll reduce my rating because there were some annoying characters and moments.
Some of my reasoning for the 10 stars:
1. Little sister Gabi is awesome. You think she's maybe gone off the rails - and you feel sad for her because home isn't great - but she's meticulously planned to save her sister.
2. Canary Islands - loved the scenery, had such an otherworldly feel.
3. Great character arcs - some came across as superficial, but then show great strength and genuine care. Especially Charly. And when Africa goes investigating I'm super pleased.
4. What is Blue Eden the drink and what does it do or test for? Who is Isaac? Why outer space? And how can Eden possibly be justified as a deadly cult?
Pera Palas'ta Gece Yarisi (2022)
Classy tale of Agatha Christie inspired mystery
Enter Istanbul's Pera Palace and step back in time, literally - for young Turkish journalist Esra - into the era of Charleston dance, British rule and Agatha Christie. Here, a mysterious young woman called Peride is murdered, sparking Esra to unravel the mystery before history is changed for the worse. Set in a time of turmoil, it captures the spirit of the Turkish in defining their own story. The friendship that grows between Esra and the Hotel Manager Ahmet is gorgeous to watch. As is the cautious dance between Esra and the mysterious Halit. It plays like an Agatha Christie novel, with clues being found along the way to seperate who's friend from foe. The costumes and music are perfect. Well worth watching, also if you miss travelling to amazing places.
Wolf Like Me (2022)
A crazy rollercoaster of a ride
You're quickly emotionally invested in the journey of the main characters from the get-go. The universe is trying to tell them something, but they're too afraid to initially listen: a metaphor for all those times you waiver between continuing a less-than-perfect life or taking a chance for something better.
The cinematography in this series is absolutely superb. It's filmed in such a way you think you're there, it feels real. A fantastic portrayal of Australian suburbs/architecture and a transcendent outback.
