Living for the Dead (2023)
Authentic and Heartfelt
Each episode is rife with the understanding that the cast cares for what they're doing. There's no sense of gimmick, which would be easy to do, because everyone is so authentic in who they are that it oozes from the screen. The locations are sometimes places I've seen investigated before but LFTD imbues them with such heartfelt adoration and respect that it feels like a brand-new investigation. This isn't your average, get scared ghost thrill. This is a dive into how we connect as people, no matter our differences, all wrapped up in the guise of a ghost investigation.
It's beautiful to watch and I will be binging it for the foreseeable future. It's not often a ghost show makes me cry!
The Winchesters (2022)
Pleasantly Surprised
Honestly wasn't sure what to expect in terms of story, but for a pilot it did well ensnaring my attention, laying the foundation of the world, and whispering about what's coming. There were pleasant callbacks and just enough newness that I will be waiting to learn more. Could the main evil of the season be the reason Dean is trying to figure all this out?
(Also for all the haters, if you're so deadset on not breaking canon, making liking a show where it was explicitly stated that God himself f'ed with canon, wasn't a good idea. For all we know, those times in the original series when the brothers went back were just angel lies).
Roadfood (2021)
Food and connection
Unlike most food shows, this one shows the people in the location and the conversations are worth listening to. Would watch another season based on the host's ability to have authentic interviews.
