Cursed (2020)
7/10
Simple entertainment with some neat plot devices
26 July 2020
This is not meant to be a faithful reproduction of Arthurian legend. Obviously. Everyone crying in their Made in China MAGA hats about "forced diversity" should really just shove off. It's fantasy. People of color can be cast in roles traditionally given to white people, and if it's ALL IMAGINARY then why should anyone care? I'd be more upset about the quality of the performances than the color of anyone's skin. The show is not perfect by any means. The plot isn't the strongest, the performances are a bit uneven, the chemistry between some of the characters is a bit off, etc. However, it's a fun romp through the neighborhood of Arthurian myth with some neat ideas that offer a different take on the story. I watched the whole series over the course of a weekend and I hope to see more of the concept.

Not extraordinary, but entertaining

Particularly if you are a fan of Jason Momoa, this show is worth checking out. If you like seeing examples of colonial-era British forces getting stood up to, frontiersmen doing frontier stuff, First Nations tribesmen doing their best to survive against European encroachment, and cool looking costumes and settings, then it's worth checking out. It's not for the faint of heart, however. The fights are violent and bloody and there is plenty of torture and abuse of women and PoC by Europeans.
