Active Shooter: America Under Fire (2017)
In the current climate, this show is well worth a watch.
Every episode brought me to tears. This is a very well constructed, perfectly planned and produced series. Living in Australia, I had heard of some of these horrific active shooter stories on the news, but some of them I had only heard fragments of the actual story. This was a real eye opener for me. Each episode delves into the police procedures and the issues they run into dealing with an active shooter situation. This show will break you, over and over again.
There have been countless other shootings across America since this series ended production. It's time to do something about gun laws...
She's Out of My League (2010)
ZZZZZZZZZZ (these Z's represent the sleeping I did in the cinema)
I'm not a harsh critic. I generally like RomComs. I almost enjoyed that one with that Spartan guy, and the chick from Grey's Anatomy....almost! I've walked out on 2 movies. The first one was Gomorrah, and that was because I didn't feel like reading the subtitles and they were free tickets anyway, and the second was She's Out Of My League. My girlfriend and I lasted 20 mins.
This movie stinks. The plot stinks, the acting stinks, the jokes stink. The only thing that kept us there for 20mins is the 'Napoleon Dynamite' looking guy. Oh and that hot junkie from Breaking Bad.
The fat side kick is confusing (gay? straight? mildly retarded?) and stupid. The Aladdin references were ridiculous...these lousy attempts at "off beat" humour are becoming slightly annoying and predictable.
Take the $15 something you were going to spend on this movie and put it towards District 9 on BluRay (or if the idea of timid aliens taking refuge in Johannesberg isn't your thing then just go and buy anything with Julia Roberts)
Better Off Ted (2009)
Quick, witty and oddly hilarious!
Saw the first episode last night 'On Demand' on Australian pay TV. I often sit back and watch the 'On Demand' stuff because I want see what I like and what I don't, and more often than not I see what I don't.
'Better Off Ted' was there. Never heard anything about it before. I put it on and was immediately swept away by the quick dialogue and the narration (I guess it's narration) to camera from my new best friend Ted. He works for a research and development company, beneath Veronica played by Portia De Rossi. The dialogue between these two is hysterical! This show reminds me of Arrested Development. Maybe it's the Portia De Rossi thing, maybe it's the dialogue. Either way, I'm already loving it, and I will be spreading the word of 'Better Off Ted'.
District 9 (2009)
If you like Sci Fi; SEE THIS FILM! If you hate Sci Fi; SEE THIS FILM!
===============FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION ONLY===============
OK, the only reason I gave this 9/10 is because you wouldn't believe me if I gave it a 10.
District 9 was a very surprising film for me. I saw the preview and expected corny lines, possibly some sort of intergalactic dance routine, and perhaps a perfectly matched alien V human fist fight (which would be absolutely mental because everyone knows that aliens could kick our ass in a fight, unless of course you have been speaking to my girlfriend, and Gerard Butler is fighting the alien).
What I actually got was a great unknown cast, top notch CGI, and a story that you have to see to believe. The film is set in Johannesburg, and is told through news reports, interviews with the general public, and a bit of doco style shooting; reminiscent of Starship Troopers only much more realistic.
I'm not going type anything else. You really do need to see it. I'm already waiting for the Special Edition BluRay. What are you doing right now? When's the next session? Why not watch it right now? TIP: Don't convince your girlfriend to see this one instead of the new Gerard Butler flick. Although she said she loved this film, I did get the impression that there wasn't enough Gerard Butler in it (there's
Year One (2009)
Good fun
If you're expecting another Superbad, lower your expectations. Now go and watch it. This film is built to make you laugh and that's it. Do You like Jack Black? Do You like Michael Cera? Get off your computer machine (or i-Phone) and watch this movie. It's just good fun.
A few cameos here and there, Jack Black's outrageously over the top humor, and Michael Cera's painfully awkward presence makes this movie a hit in my mind. I can't understand why it only got 5/10? People tend to judge these movies fairly harshly in my opinion, it's not meant to be a sophisticated cinema piece, or historically accurate, it's just a bit of fun. Enjoy.
