Wonder Woman (2011 TV Movie)
Truly Wonderful
22 September 2011
Quite frankly when I heard that they cast Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman and that it wasn't written by Joss Whedon, I was disappointed because I was really excited to see Joss' vision of the iconic heroine. Then photos of Adrianne in costume were released and it made me cringe a little bit because it didn't look that great. I just couldn't see Adrianne as Wonder Woman and, after the disappointment that was Bionic Woman, the future had looked dismal for this reboot from the get-go.

When I saw the pilot, it totally blew me away. It was well-written. It had decent character development with a lot of action and humor. It didn't try to be dark or edgy, nor did it try to be some kind of serious origin story, it was simply Wonder Woman in 2011---a charming and successful, albeit short-tempered, beautiful woman that just so happened to be a superhero.

Adrianne Palicki was a real revelation for me. She made an incredibly believable Wonder Woman. I couldn't help but cheer for her because this Wonder Woman is awesome. She's beautiful, sexy, fierce, confident, self-assured, loving, noble, stubborn, impulsive, and, at the same time, a total bad ass.

The new Wonder Woman is wonderfully complicated while staying genuinely charming. I am sad that this wasn't picked up by a major network because I believe that the world would have loved this Wonder Woman. I think this is THE Wonder Woman for the new generation.

SATC 2 Is a Fun and Fabulous Flick
15 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
OK, now, I know that my rating will have some people raising their eyebrows, but I don't care because that's exactly why I'm writing this review. Quite frankly I'm only writing a review for this movie because most of the reviews available for this movie have been extremely negative and incorrect in my opinion. I never really got to see the original show religiously because I was, like, 12 when the show was still on, but I have seen an episode or two since then. The movie is glamorous, smart, sexy, and funny--in that order too.

Fashion is obviously one of the main reasons why the show and the movies became very successful. The clothes in the movie were spectacular and the shoes even more so. Admittedly, some of their clothes weren't really appropriate for the Middle Eastern setting, but these were the Sex and the City girls!!! And anyone who knew who they were knows that they have never been one of those people that would easily compromise themselves, especially not when it comes to fashion!

Some reviews argued that the characters qualms were all very petty and ridiculous. Supposedly, the girls were complaining about the most insipid things because they are selfish and insensitive to the other people around them. Sure, there is truth to that, but those qualms do not define them. Most reviewers are being hypocritical here because, let's admit it, we all can be a bit selfish and insensitive sometimes. And it's not like the girls are broadcasting their qualms to the world or telling every single person they meet about them. They are discussing these issues with their best friends and lovers which is normal and, might I add, appropriate. I mean, seriously, who doesn't talk about things like these with their best friends or lovers? Unless you're some kind of hermit or a complete loser with no friends that is. And, besides, when Charlotte and Miranda were talking about their problems, they both expressed that they felt really bad and felt like they were the worst mothers for having those feelings which pretty much captures how real mothers might feel in the same situation.

There were reviews saying that this movie was racist which is absurd. I am a person of color, part Muslim, and have been fighting against all forms of discrimination from racism and color-ism to homophobia, and this movie was definitely not racist. Sure, at times, the characters become a bit irreverent especially Samantha, but that IS Samantha. She has always been the crazy and outrageous one. She's never been and never will be a girl to change who she is, no matter where in the world she is.

Overall I think most of the other reviews have been misguided because they misunderstood the film and kept comparing their own lives to those of Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha's. Wake up call, guys, you're not them and this is just a movie. People seem to have forgotten why these girls are icons and the original show even more so. The show and characters were phenomenally successful not because they were realistic, but because they gave us relate-able escapism. The girls were beautiful, successful, promiscuous, rich, fashionable, and sexy, and that's why we love them because they were everything most people wanted to be.

Worst than expected
17 September 2010
I've been watching video game adaptations ever since I was little and pretty much have a realistic sense of what to expect in movies like these, i.e., they tend to be less than stellar and deviate severely from the source material. I saw King of Fighters after I saw Tekken, so the latter became my point of comparison and, therefore, wasn't expecting much from the KOF movie. However,KOF just epically sucked.

Based on the credits, there seemed to be so many people involved in this movie and I can't understand how, with all these people, they couldn't come up with a decent movie. The movie had a pretty good A list cast that are all mostly well-experienced and well-respected in the action movie industry, but they all deliver their career worsts in this one movie.

The story was idiotic and the script was pointless. The movie runs at a snail's pace and all the action scenes were bland, at best, because just when you think that it's going to be better, it just disappoints.

I'm usually very forgiving of movies and understanding of their flaws, but this movie was an epic fail. Maggie Q, Will Yun Lee, Ray Park, and Sean Farris should all be ashamed. It looked like they just did this movie to pay the bills. This is a great example of what not to do in a movie, not just for video game adaptations. They'd have been better off making a porno.
