Kaminey (2009)
Dhan te nan - Bollywood's best of 2009
Dhan te nan - This song has been like my anthem for past 45 days and believe me when i saw & heard the song in the cinema it worked like Cocaine ..the songs gets into you like anything and make you wanna dance along... First of all Hats off to Vishal Bhardwaj for composing such a song and capturing it like the way it should be done. The song wasn't supposed to be just a disco song ... it was a song sung by two small time gangsters who were high and thought they had just made millions of money..i loved the way song was choreographed even though a lot of people might not find it that impressive.
Coming to the movie : It is mind blowing ...firstly because the Title "Kaminey" is so APT .. all the characters in the movie are Kaminey to the core leaving a couple of them who aren't that gr8 a kaminey but yes they are kaminey too in a way or other.
I loved each and every character because they looked so real and original... i had never seen a smuggler like Tashi before or a politician cum gunda like Bhopey ...even the twin brothers are so original with their hatred towards each other and their own birth defects.. Sweety's characters is something we haven't seen till now in bollywood .. usually a gangster has a innocent shy sister but here Sweety is rebellious and modern sister who can even shoot when in the need arises..:D
Lobo and lele were gr8 too especially when interrogating Guddu in the cell...it was so freaking hilarious.
The background music is fast paced and keeps you engaged in the movie. The music is awesome and goes with the flow of the movie.
The first half is pretty good but its the second half that blew me away especially the last 20 minutes with the exceptionally well shot climax scenes and the way humor is used even when everybody is shooting bullets.
I want to thank Vishal Bhardwaj and the cast and crew of Kaminey for restoring my faith in Bollywood.
Gulaal (2009)
Mind blowing piece of cinema
Gulaal is a extremely well scripted and characterized piece of cinema. Each and every character is carved brilliantly and the characters are so real and so different from usual flicks. It is a story of a simple and innocent graduate and how his life gets affected by politics and the way it has been shown is simply amazing.
I love the way Anurag Kashyap tells the entire story and the music blends effortlessly except the Songs picturised on Mahi Gill. The background score is awesome.
Cinematography is amazing and the color red is captured beautifully throughout the movie.
Piyush Mishra who has penned the lyrics has done a wonderful job both as a lyricist and music director. Wait that's not all he has also played the role of Prithvi Bana and has done a brilliant job. His dialogues are so bloody good and gets metamorphic at times. All his dialogues are thought provoking and the way he sings in the movie is so different and unusual and impressive as well.
Kay Kay Menon has as usual done a wonderful job as a person who is passionate about his history and his background. He speaks flawlessly and lives up to the expectations.
Raj Singh Chaudhary has done a good job as a simple and innocent student who gets into the trap of college politics. But somewhere we can that amateurishness in his performance.
Ayesha Mohan acted well and may god save men form such women[:D]
But the best performance comes from Abhimanyu Shekhar singh as Ranvijay. His dialogues were mind blowing and he enacted the role of a rajput to perfection.
Deepak Dobriyal as Bhatti has again lived up to the expectations and his acting looks so real.
Jesse Randhawa has done well with whatever she had to do.
Mahi Gill was a let down and I expected better performance from her. I found her irritating at times may be because the kind of character she played will definitely irritate me in real life.
Final Verdict A must watch for people who love hard hitting cinema. Its is a bloody awesome movie.
Delhi-6 (2009)
Another Disappointment of 2009
Dilli 6 was another disappointment of the year. Not only because I went in with huge expectations but also because the movie is not up to the standards by any means be it story, acting, editing or even the direction.
The story did not real appeal to me. I believe they could have chosen some better topic than Kala Bandar. The story went haywire with monkey man on one side and Abhishek's tourist visit on the other side. First half seemed like a documentary on Delhi especially Chandni Chowk with abhishek roaming around the streets of delhi doing Motorola promotions by clicking photos. Second was still better but was not at all synchronized with the first half.
The music of the film is amazing but unfortunately most of the songs are wasted in the movie. The songs are inserted anywhere and everywyhere. Rehna Tu came out of nowhere like an Aandhi and Toofan Ki Tarah Gayaab Ho Gaya
lol
Coming to the acting I wasn't really impressed with any of the actors. Abhishek Bachchan hardly spoke in first half and whenever he spoke he was carrying American accent. He made some impact in last 15 minutes but was not enough to impress me.
Sonam Kapoor was wasted . I think she looked better in Saawariya
.In Delhi 6 I found her character a bit mentally unstable
the way she danced and spoke was a bit weird and believe me I will never fall in love with such a girl in real life.
Waheeda Rehman did quite a decent job. Rishi Kapoor didn't had much to do but impressed me whenever he came on screen. Vijay Raaz did well along with Ompuri. Vijayraaz and Abhishek Bachchan scenes were good. Abhishek and his grandfather scene cud've been avoided easily.
Dialogues were not gr8
only a couple of dialogues by rishi kapoor were good and in the end abhishek's dialogues were impressive to a certain extent.
The editing is below standard and I was disappointed by the way editing was done. There were some a couple or more scenes where I asked myself why these scenes or dialogues were included?
