The Frankenstein Chronicles (2015)
A tru frankensteins monster to be sure
Loved the first season, second season lost its way but still had gorgeous atmosphere and enough action to make you want to hold on. Sean Bean and number of the other cast give great performances, personally I think the character of Joseph Nightingale was awful to watch but that has more to do with the writing than the acting (honestly expected him to be a redshirt and die within a few episodes, also "falling in love" with a very young girl you've just met and know nothing about is weird and problematic). If you like a good period horror with some tasty literary references than you'll love it, but don't get too hyped just sit back and enjoy it as it is.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Is it critiquing white american christianity? if so poorly
I'm not sure if this is just because I was raised outside of a heavily christianised society ie the USA, but I found the catholic characters especially the main characters father and mother to be almost insufferable, I read this as almost a case of reflecting the hypocrisy of dictating anothers thoughts, beliefs, feeling, as well as pointing out the problematic of blind faith. Admittedly I'm only halfway through, but I was surprised to find that I might be the only one who read it that way.
Note: no disrespect to people who believe or practise christianity, but disrespect to those who abuse faith and use it justify ignorance and hate.
