El día menos pensado: Episode #3.3 (2022)
Great emotional ride
Great episode from beginning to the end. First part tells the story of the Women's Flanders Tour and how those girls are beating the muddy cobblestones, the rain and the crashes. This already gives goosebumps.
The final part then focuses back on the Vuelta and although having internal issues between the two leaders and the reduction to just five riders, the team celebrates an outstanding success. This is particularly emotional because of the things that we know will happen afterwards. Also I liked the little funny moments of the coach Chente and how he got popular in the sports.
So, this is so far my favorite episode of the series. I hope there will be more to come. In my opinion this series should get more attention especially it must be seen as THE original cycling reality show, because Netflix will release their own with much more marketing around it very soon. I hope this one doesn't get forgotten and rather as side effect of the TDF-series will be even elevated in its reach to the audience. It deserves it.
Formula 1: Drive to Survive: Alpha Male (2023)
So many other interesting topics were left out for this?
Of course Yuki has a big fanbase in Japan, but it is hard to swallow that he as an overly emotional, often childish and unsuccessful pilot receives a full boring episode and on the other side the farewell from one of the biggest motorsport heroes of all time and his last outstanding overtaking maneuvers is left out. Vettel was even three times Driver of the Day in this season. The chosen topics on DTS do not reflect the sports milestones of the season at all and a lot of the created drama is just fake. The screenwriters should be replaced for the new season. Please let's get back to more sports.
Schumacher (2021)
Great documentary with little plot holes
First, I want to say that this Schumacher documentary is a great tribute to the Formula 1 sports and its hero of the 90's and 00's decades.
I was a big fan of Schumi when he started to break through in 91-93. Then there were the tragic moments in Imola and the season's final and I could not sympathize with Michael Schumacher anymore like I did before.
In the documentary Schumi says that he was believing that Ayrton would still be alive, he received little information. Before coming to the podium he looked happy and then he was instructed by Flavio to not celebrate. Nothing was said in the documentary about Roland Ratzenberger's tragic death and Rubens Barrichello's horrible crash at the same weekend. I understand that the documentary needs to focus on special plot points, but the whole weekend of Imola '94 was already a catastrophe and so I think it should have been embedded accordingly. The statements of Schumi regarding Senna's accident are only telling half of the story.
And then the accident against Damon Hill in Australia '94. It was actually a similar reaction what was happening '97 against Villeneuve. I noticed to that time that he is not a nice guy and obsessed to be the Number 1 no matter whether he is bringing risks to the others. And unfortunately, I believe this ruthlessness is how to get THE champion nowadays, as we have seen similar things also in the career paths of M. Jordan or L. Armstrong.
Nevertheless, again a great portrait of him including the tragic moments after his skiing accident especially for his family.
Greatest Events of WWII in Colour: Dresden Firestorm (2019)
Amazing documentary, but the map maker should be fired!
The revised footage is impressive and also the experts carry the storyline greatly with their details and opinions. So generally seen, I am completely amazed by this 2nd world war - documentary. But...
who created these wrong and ridiculous maps and who approved these maps to be shown in the series? This documentary looks so professional in its details, but then unfortunately, the embedded maps show nearly all of the biggest and most popular German cities like Hamburg or Frankfurt hundreds of kilometers from their actual location! There are also some other stupid errors in the maps, like Germany's biggest island Rügen belonging to the Allied already (colored in blue)? The viewer gets here wrong information that should be revised to carry the right stories!
So, related these wrong details I am reducing my rating to 7 instead of 9.
Jagten (2012)
Emotionally overwhelming experience
This movie is one of my all-time favorites. Even the second time watching it, I had tears in my eyes. The actors are brilliant, every look of them tells their heartbreaking story. The movie leaves us so much room for interpretations and dealing with our own fears and opinions. If you allow yourself to watch this movie without getting distracted and you prefer emotionally driven stories, then "Jagten" can stick to your mind for a long time.
Thanks to all involved for this unique experience.
