Morbius (2022)
Do yourself a favour.... AVOID THIS BILGE!
I have watched most Marvel movies at least 5 times each (ok... maybe not Iron Man 2 and 3), and those are just the ones that aren't my faves (Cap 1, 2, Avengers etc. Are well into double digits by now)!
Morbius on the other hand is dull, insipid, blundering, boring, predictable.... and a huge waste of the cast/cash/crew that went into making it.
I would rename it 'Tedious'... cos that's what it is!
The X Files (1993)
The grand-pappy of old hokum 'modern' conspiracy shows!
I may be being a bit harsh (seeing as I'm watching this on Disney+ in 2022 and not when it was originally on TV in the '90s).
I enjoy sci-fi shows and am a big Marvel fan etc. But I found this show very slow, tedious and predictable.
The relationship between Mulder and Scully is a bit boring as well - 'are they/aren't they' is a tried and tested TV formula (eg Friend's - another '90s show!) and by Season 5 they even start taking the piss out of themselves!
There is a cameo from the bloke who was the main protagonist in 'The Invaders' US '60s show which was a nice touch - but I definitely think the boat has sailed (sunk?) on this show!
Halt and Catch Fire (2014)
Superb show that is believable because the cast/acting/script is phenomenal!
Agree with all the other reviewer's who've lamented the lack of recognition this show has/had. I've come to this show 'late' as well, but sooooo glad I did....absolutely compelling television!
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021)
The trailer is the best part of this time waster!
Avoid... tired and tiringly derivative yawn-fest...two hours of your life that you won't get back.
The White Lotus (2021)
Really, really enjoyable cringe-fest!
Virtually impossible to single out one particular performance from this ensemble cast - Murray Bartlett (increasingly unhinged Resort Manager) and Jennifer Coolidge (permanently unhinged) are incredible - Natasha Rothwell, Steve Zahn, Connie Britton and most of the cast breathe life into Mike White's hilarious satire of contemporary consumerist society.
No spoilers as I won't ruin it for you (as there are a few quite novel and shocking scenes) - the build up to the dénouement is exquisitely delivered week after week.
A few of the minor characters were two dimensional (e.g. Olivia and Paula) and weren't sufficiently 'interesting' enough, although understandably included as devices for cultural commentary. I would've liked their screen time to have been used on richer character development elsewhere.
Format of the show promises future delight's as a new cast will appear in Season 2 at another luxury location.
Free Guy (2021)
Underwhelming I'm afraid!
Who doesn't love Ryan Reynolds? Stick his name on anything and you've automatically got everyone's interest right? (well, almost everyone -isn't that right, Netflix). I thought this was going to be like a RR romp through a 'gamer' style world - Deadpool meets Fortnite sort of thing - but sadly not to be.
The story is weak, characterisations are clichéd and even the action scenes look half-baked. The humour felt forced and there was zero chemistry between RR and Jodie Comer - TW was 1-dimensional as the bad guy he was so lame.
Ultimately, I'm not sure if the script writers knew who they were making this movie for - it ended up being quite exhausting to watch because of the tired tropes and reliance on cliché - it might 'only' be a 12A but the Studio Execs seriously underestimate kids if they think they can get away with lazy film-making like this! I'm being very generous giving it 4/10 and that's purely for RR!
Sorry Ryan, I still love you though.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
DC does it again - total excrement! What a waste of time and talent.
I've read quite a few of the positive reviews on here and I'm wondering 'am I the visiting alien or are they?' This movie is TERRIBLE - great cast with a terrible script, un-funny, forced 'humour', unnecessary gore laid on with a trowel due absence of anything else cohesive....the highlight for me was the Johnny Cash opening track and it rapidly went downhill from there (and the rest of the soundtrack didn't 'click')... I'm talking vertical descent! Please save yourselves the disappointment and watch ANYTHING else instead... even SS1/JL was better than this... I've watched a lot of movies in my time (50 earth years) and I'm not kidding!
