The Operative (2019)
A solid spy story
If you like John Le Carre, you will find this movie an absolute treat. Not for those who consider Bond as the epitome of spycraft. A great performance by Diane Kruger as someone in a situation way over her head. What isn't explained is the real reason or motivation/ raison d'etre as to why she would take on such a dangerous task. Thankfully, the opposing forces aren't depicted as a bunch of buffoons. To the extent that the protagonist almost "goes native".
A great utilization of 157 minutes.
The Order (2019)
Amazing tale with a twist
Utterly engrossing..right till the end. Don't let the spoilers ruin it for it. Hope Netflix comes back with season 2
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
What happened to Strategy in this movie?
First of all,Optimus Prime seems to be a simple minded weakling. Compared to him, Megatron is an evil genius. It's incomprehensible that the Autobots could beat the Decepticons time and time by following such an unimaginative leader. So Megatron puts plans into motion for hundreds of years and the Autobots do what?? Optimus naively offers the leadership to Sentinel and Sentinel doesn't take it- I ask why??? Secondly, why the hell is the best stuff with the Decepticons? The Digger which simply devastates entire buildings is so frigging cool. What do the Autobots have to compare? Michael Bay says this movie is like Black Hawk Down in Chicago with Robots. Good idea-but why is the US Military so incompetent in Hollywood movies? What the hell happened to cruise missiles? What about tactical nukes? hell, if your city is overrun, wouldn't they authorise use of ICBMs? Think the Decepticons would find that difficult to handle.I mean, the heroes are instructing snipers where to set up-that's laughable.
Lastly, Rosie what's her name?? She should stick to lingerie! Don't get me wrong-this movie entertains for the vast majority of the 3 hours it plays.Since Shia and Bay won't be part of the 4th installment, here's to an reinvigorated franchise -or we could end up with a version like Pirates- On Stranger Tides!
Dum Maaro Dum (2011)
Finally Bollywood comes up with a decent thriller!
Production values in Bollywood have really gone up and how! The way the story keeps the viewer engaged throughout the movie, tells you that DMD is a perfect example of what happens when you invest in a good script instead of lavishing millions on stupid item songs in foreign locations.
Abhi was awesome. You really enjoyed watching him. As far as Prateik is concerned, he really doesn't have much to do-he's adequate but his role could have been done by anyone. Rana was fine in his carefree role but I wish they explained the reasons/motivations for the choices he makes in the second half. Bips is stunning as usual-not much acting expected from the desi equivalent of the Bond girl.
Aditya could have been more....villainous. They really need to spend on lyricists who aren't in the second grade.
The question to ask is..does the movie entertain...the answer...paissa vasool!
Arthur (2011)
Enjoy the movie for what it is rather than comparing to the original
People go to the movies for a variety of reasons. Watching Arthur for it's contributions to the world of cinema is probably not the reason to spend your $10.If you want a light comedy which entertains you, then I'd say the film definitely succeeds. But, if you take things seriously and attempt to critique the movie, well it might be better if you rent something from the Venice Film Festival instead. Arthur is made with a view to entertaining it's viewers and does a pretty good job of it,IMHO (but hey, a packed theatre of people laughing would not mean anything, right?) What would average movie goers know about the movies?
Russel Brand doesn't attempt to copy Dudley Moore's role- he presents a rather brattish rework to take into today's age and times.Helen Mirren is delightful-every 30 yr old would love to have her as a nanny:) You find yourself rooting for Arthur turning himself around to end up with this girl he loves Naomi(Greta Gerwig)
