Troppo: Episode #1.8 (2022)
All the mysteries are resolved
Brilliant ending. Although the first 5 or so episodes were slow, by the last few I was really invested into finding out the truth.
And this episode does it fabulously.
It's a very emotional episode. There's quite a bit of grief, portrayed excellently, that made me well up. Initially Amanda was too strange to be relatable, but by the end of this season, I had built a lot of sympathy for her, and the ending was a relief in many ways. Although it was a bit abrupt, as others have said, and I found myself wishing to see the public aftermath.
Anyway, another season is apparently in the works! There's a bit to resolve about Ted, hopefully the next season does that.
The Last Bus (2021)
Very boring, unfortunately
I know what it's like to cry during a film. I think I was supposed to during this film, but it just didn't work.
It is a sweet and sad story, about an old man at the end of his life, and we learn about a tragedy in his past.
But the story is very very thin. There are virtually no surprises. Hardly any dialog, let alone action.
Perhaps this is a genre of film that I am unfamiliar with. It just doesn't resonate with me, maybe it will with you.
I really want to rate this higher. I feel disrespectful to the dear old man in the film. But the truth is, I wish I had used my time watching something else.
Harlan Coben's Shelter (2023)
I liked the story and would watch more, but....
I haven't read the books, so I'm assessing the series on it's own merit.
The good: I like the story. I like the mystery of events passed. And I like the teenage element. Most of all, I liked the character Spoon. I'd watch again just to enjoy his amusing personality.
The bad:
- Bad writing, with many implausible events without explanation. You will repeatedly wonder why/how/what? You need to suspend disbelief, even if aspects of the story seems very unlikely. There are just so many of these, which you will probably find annoying.
- Gratuitous use of swear words. I'm not American, but this portrays American teenagers as people who can't help dropping the f-bomb every second sentence.
- Excessive 'diversity'. Minor complaint, but I think the number of LGBTQ relationships and perhaps some ethnicities are overrepresented.
