Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery (2023)
A well cooked socio-political satire!
Kathal is a well cooked socio-political satire, with a captivating narrative that reveals the broader societal issues with so much ease and laughter.
The story is written and presented in a very brilliant and witty manner. It kept the humour going until the story reached its conclusion.
In most of the Indian crime dramas, the whole narrative usually dwells around a male protagonist while the female characters just remain a good sidekick. But Kathal reverses this whole stereotypical power dynamics that has been quite common with a mainstream Indian movie.
It takes on the caste system and lack of basic education in major parts of rural India has been executed superbly without being preachy.
The entire cast delivering captivating performances with their witty banters makes Kathal a good satirical comedy that would be really worth watching!
Pathaan (2023)
THE KING IS BACK!
So finally after more than a span of 4 long years, Shah Rukh Khan make his comeback to the big screen with the Siddharth Anand directorial movie Pathaan. And personally I don't think that there could be any better comeback movie for HIM than this one.
This movie has got all the elements what fans and movie lovers across the world could probably urge for. You ask, and Pathaan delivers. This is how brilliantly Siddharth Anand has blended this movie. It is what it is.
Deepika Padukone throughout this movie looks like an absolute dream. Her badass unapologetic character makes you to hoot & whistle everytime she appears on screen. Her magnanimous screen presence stands out every single time. The perfect partner-in-crime for Pathaan.
John Abraham as the antagonist is a treat to watch. He simply owns the 1st half of Pathaan. His origin story makes you root for the character that why he have transformed into such a monster. A no nonsense baddie which this Spy Universe truly deserves.
The CGI and the comedy seems to be the underwhelming aspects of this film. Hope the creators do work on them in their upcoming ventures of the Spy Universe. Also the back story of Deepika Padukone falls flat which fails to connect the audience with her more emotionally.
Undeniably the scale at which Pathaan is being set, we haven't witness this before in any Bollywood movie. But the jetpack and the bike chase sequence could have been choreographed better along with some better CGI as well.
And finally, with Pathaan you can really say that Shah Rukh Khan, the Baadshah of Bollywood is truly back!
The buzz over all these years that HE & HIS stardom has faded is all wrong.
Shah Rukh at his sarcastic best is enough to make the crowd go gaga over him.
You can take it as a disclaimer, but please don't leave your seats in the interval. Because the first 15 minutes post-interval is what we all Bollywood movie lovers have waited for such a long time. The best cameo is here!
"Bhag Pathaan Bhag!" If you know, you know.
So that's the review of Pathaan from your Kifayati Critic. Now decide it by yourself whether to watch it in theatres or not. I would highly recommend to watch it on a single screen, if possible.
And yes. It truly deserves all the hype around.
THE KING IS BACK!
Taaza Khabar (2023)
The performer Bhuvan excelled the youtuber BB
With its engaging screenplay, Taaza Khabar pulled off its rags-to-riches story really well.
The story of the protagonist being an underdog, who succeeds in achieving his wildest dreams (aukaat ke bahar) which eventually ends up corrupting him.
Success comes at a cost!
The evilness of J. D. Chakravarthy being the antagonist, the sincerity of Deven Bhojani & Nitya Mathur, the comic relief by Prathamesh Parab and matured love interest of Vatsya played by Shriya Pilgaonkar, each of them shines in their respective premises.
The cliffhangers played a pivotal role in forcing you to binge watch this six episodes web series. But the things which actually adds the cherry on the cake are the music and the cinematography of this series.
People specially his fans (like me) who've rooted for Bhuvan since his initial days can only celebrate the wonders that this man is now doing with each of his performances.
And lastly, Bhuvan Bam is the performer that you really need to watch out for.
So go and watch Taaza Khabar on Disney+Hotstar if you haven't yet watched it and know it by yourself ke,
"Ye vardaan hai ya shraap!"
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Neither a waste of money nor too great to be rejoiced
Brahmastra has to be one of the most anticipated movie that I was genuinely rooting for such a long span of time.
With mixed reviews all over the internet, I would only like to say that it's neither an absolute knockout of a film in every aspect nor it was a trash that doesn't worth your time.
The background score, the music & the songs did really fits well to the screenplay. The visual effects & the cinematography totally stands out. Also the CAMEOSASTRA perfectly did its job.
And the interval block man! The way it provides cliffhanger for the second half is something that's genuinely commendable, since it was missing from the Hindi film industry for a long period of time.
But apparently what actually lacks in the movie are the SCREENPLAYASTRA & the DIALOGUEASTRA. Dude, the English-Hindi/Hinglish dialogues never really attached you with any of the characters. The core emotional sequences even fails to connect with the masses just because of its absolute bad writing. The simplistic form of explainations to everything just doesn't go well.
Also Bollywood has to stop it's obsession with forcing love stories & let them develop organically. Honestly, after a certain point of time Isha played by Alia Bhatt starts irritating you, for you've to wonder about the importance of her character rather than just being Shiva's love interest & also every now & then shouting her heartout, "Shiva! Shiva!"
Genuinely there are plenty of plot holes in this movie. But the vision of Ayan Mukerji deserves huge appreciation for the mammoth task he undertook & have presented to us.
Mouni Roy as Junoon is just absolute madness & deserves more & more appreciation for it.
Big B is ageing like a fine wine. But somehow the bad written dialogues set some major drawbacks to even his character also.
The screen presence of Nagarjuna is absolutely undeniable. Total mass written all over.
And last but not the least, I have to say about the scientist who gave me absolute goosebumps, all the time he was there on-screen. Shah Rukh Khan.
Fans would surely go gaga by witnessing this version of SRK that they have been waiting for so long. But again, bad dialogues! Addressing someone as 'Genda' or 'Haathi' doesn't seems to be funny in 2022 I guess.
Still I would recommend everyone to go & have there own experience into the theatres. Since I genuinely believe & have faith in Ayan Mukerji's vision, that he still has got a lot to offer from the ASTRAVERSE.
Also I'm way too excited for it's second part.. which somewhere might could have just create 'khalibali' to all the flaws that has happened in this very first installment.
All total 6/10.
Neither a waste of money nor too great to be rejoiced. Somewhere in the middle, where you could probably enjoy one hell of a big screen experience.
Shabaash Mithu (2022)
An innings which certainly loses its momentum after a promising start
Shabaash Mithu is one such prime example of an innings which certainly loses its momentum after a promising start.
Taapsee proved it yet again that why she is being considered as one of the finest actors that we have.
Vijay Raaz like always is simply outstanding as Mithali's coach Sampath. The music is pretty good. Some of the scenes are really meant to move you at a time. But the main problem starts with the second half where this film terribly lost its track.
The film could have been a celebration of the entire women's cricket as a whole rather than mostly being centred to its protagonist only. The stats as well as the timeline could have been more accurate and clearer than it has been shown in the film.
Also I don't why but Srijit Mukherji directing a Hindi project seems to be a different person than Srijit Mukherji directing a Bengali project. Being a fanboy of this person's craft, it is really a matter of disappointment for me.
One time watchable.
Dasvi (2022)
Abhishek Bachchan Pass Hogaya!
"Itihaas se na sikhane wale.. khud itihaas ban jate hai."
Can we just get more movies like this, please?
Is it too much that I ask for?
Kafi achchhi movie hai. Zaroor dekhna isse.
K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022)
Gang lekar aane wale hote hain gangster.. woh akela aata tha.. Monsterrrrr..
KGF Chapter-2 is an out and out One Man Show. Absolutely loved the rampage on-screen.
Although the editing during the action sequences is very disturbing and annoying as well. And I still couldn't connect myself with the romantic angle of this movie similar to that of the Chapter-1.
But yeah, in the end it's all about the celebration of the aura of the big man, Rocky Bhai (Yash) and that's exactly where the makers did hit the ball out of the park.
Kudos to the entire team for their hardwork and dedication to this mammoth project which is finally paying off.
Plus Minus (2018)
The BB Show
With this short film, Bhuvan Bam proved that his range is much more than just simply being an youtuber.
A beautiful story presented in a well crafted manner.
Shiddat (2021)
Another melodramatic rom-com from Bollywood
The entire cast did an amazing job. Lekin emotional baggage ko agar side mein rakhke dekhoge toh samjh aajayega ki kuchh bhi naya nahi hai isme. Mohit Rana was the only relief package.
Bollywood really needs to get over from its obsession for all these same rom-com melodramas. Anyway.
Songs of this movie are really soulful.
One time watch.
Golondaaj (2021)
A game changer for Bengali Film Industry
The transformation of Dev as an actor is highly appreciable. Cinematography and Direction are the two postive aspects of this movie.
The only drawback seems to be the length of the film. Still couldn't figure out about the need of that song in the climax.
But still it's a must watch.
