Persuasion (2022)
Trashed the main character.
The only thing I liked about this adaptation is the colourblind casting.
Maybe if I didn't love the book and previous adaptation... but they have removed the likability of the main character, who really the heart of the story.
Ted Lasso: Rainbow (2021)
This was epic!
This was the best episode of the season (so far)!
I think this season took a little while to warm up. This episode was just so heartwarmingly Ted Lasso!
Can wait till next episode! Also as a British person I legitimately forget this is an American TV show. Bang on!
Strike (2017)
Every Detective needs a good coat
I LOVE these books. I was very anxious about watching the show because I personally hate the Harry Potter adaptations. The casting was great especially Robin. I honestly thought they might have changed the ending from the book, it had me guessing (and I've read the book more than once). I have read mixed reviews about this show and I understand the criticism, however, I think it deserves a bigger audience. There are a few nitpicks I had, when I read the books I pictured Luther.. and Tom Burke seems to have stolen his coat from BBC props.
Read the books and watch the show. I am not sure how I would have felt if hadn't read them. So to conclude.. best JKR adaptation out there. Watch this show.
Disjointed (2017)
Laughter all the way to the bank.
So I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews, but this show irritated me enough to pass comment. Kathy Bates is one of the best actresses of her generation, I love her work. The premise of this show is great however the execution on shockingly bad. It plays on the stereotypes of race, age (older hippies generation) and people who partake in medicinal and recreational marijuana use. The laughter track aims to distract from this but in reality heightens the annoyance.
This show reminded me a lot of 'The Great Indoors' which was produced by the same company and was also absolute tripe. They employed another beloved national treasure and actor (Stephen Fry) to play a caricature to the lowest possible denominator. My assumption is that they got paid a lot of money without actually having to put much effort in. I don't blame either Kathy Bates or Stephen Fry for that. However, I would not be surprised if this too only made it a season.
Class: For Tonight We Might Die (2016)
First Episode Fun
I came across this by accident as I was vaguely only aware that they were doing a new Doctor Who spin off in a school. I am a huge fan of who (currently wearing a Dr WHo Christmas Jumper 2 months too soon).
Anyway on to the review.. this is a great pilot, I had no idea that it was a Who spin off until about 25% in which makes it accessible to a new fans and doesn't require background knowledge of the source material. When I started watching it, I felt there was an Americanized atmosphere to the school and compared to other British productions (Teachers, Skins, even Sarah Jane).
I am a massive fan of shows like Buffy and I enjoyed the reference and homage that they play to these shows. This show aired the same week as another 'British Buffy' type E4 show called 'Crazyhead' and I felt this was much better.
