The Americans (2013)
Surprisingly impartial
Accurate? I really don't know. But, as an stranger to these two countries, I feel like this show poops on both on equal measure. My brother called it a big commercial, a propaganda if you will, but he also likes "Chernobyl" to no end, which is ironic. He didn't get pass through the first half of the pilot, by the way, so figure it out.
Me? I loved this show. Pays so much attention to the psychology of its characters. And I genuinely believe it has more episodic value than other shows I've watched (Breaking Bad).
There's too much sex though. Justified sex, but still. Don't watch it with grandma.
Army of the Dead (2021)
I play L4D2 a lot...
So... As long as I get good zombie action, I can deal with an idiotic plot just fine. The casino shootout was worth my while. I got PTSD out of it. Just splendid.
Victoria (2015)
Iñaritú with a lazy plot
Enough said.
Predictable when you know Spanish (and the meaning of a particular word).
The main protagonist saying "Yeah, I'm totally OK with this", when everybody else would have said "Nah, man. I'm out
See ya tomorrow.". This in particular wouldn't have bothered me if I saw plenty of effort in the plot, but I saw none.
Anyways...
There's some decent action and suspense. And just like Biutiful wasn't a masterpiece and still had numerous memorable scenes, full of humanity, Victoria has one in particular that will stick with me for a long time. And for that I come out satisfied of this film.
Besy (2014)
A nice try
It's exactly how I pictured it to be: Just a thriller. A straightforward downgrade, no doubt about it. But it's hard to make more out of it given the format and the resources.
The thing about "Demons" is that most of the social commentary is conveyed within the narrator's perspective. And the narrator has no real place in the story whatsoever, he's just there to fulfill a "political agenda", we could say; to give us full background on how despicable the characters really are. Going back and forth in time every turn of page. There's so many stories to tell, that the sheer idea of dealing with it on television would give writers nightmares for decades.
What gives the novel its chaotic nature is that character development surpasses the plot. The plot ends up being almost secondary before the monstrous problem that is the psychology of its characters.
So, yeah. I like it. My only issue would be the soundtrack. The music is straight out of a mexican telenovela. And for that, I'll take out a point. My final opinion: a score of 8/10
Also the intro is surprisingly outstanding and the acting... oh, man, the acting: marvelous.
