Mommy (2014)
a movie that leaves you speechless
How difficult to talk about this movie, it seems that there are a thousand things to say, but the first thing that comes out is that it is a masterpiece. I do not know I can expect less from the director Xavier Dolan who this time tries to show us the life of Steve (Antoine Oliver Pilon) a boy with anger and hyperactivity problems who returns to live with his mother (Anne Dorval) after being in the hospital psychiatric and to show us their complicated relationship due to their problems. Before this, a new neighbor also joins that will help Steve to serve as a guide in his life for him. With this scoop, the director takes us on a one-way journey down a path of violence, music and personal growth, where everything will be shown from very dark tones with a 1: 1 screen distribution to let us see how suffocated they are. Characters with their lives and when things are better the screen will open for us, and also let us see beautiful colors in a scene that personally captivated my hearts by the song and the meaning of it. The performance by me seems incredible, as real as it is destructive, each scene of anger makes him inhibit himself and bdndbd is the opposite, he generates pain and suffering for the things he has to endure around him but always facing it as best he can, and please do not leave Suzanne Clément aside as the most tender neighbor and with a past that without knowing much always gives us empathy, in addition to the affection and quick chemistry that she gives with Steve.
In conclusion, this film in its genre is one of the best and the first to be shown when it comes to films with and for adolescents, it touches sensitive issues in a huge way, without falling into excessive sensitivity or exaggerating things but showing the reality , its ups and downs, that happiness can be found in an old woman on skateboard listening to oasis and the rest does not matter.
Old (2021)
disappointment of the year?
Shyamalan brings a story that from the beginning sounds intriguing and original to us, this does not mean that the execution has been terrible, giving us little intrigue and performances that seem more forced. The things that can be salvaged are the direction of the Indian born and some very good special effects combined with a great photograph.
I think disappointment may be the word that marks this film, since when we heard the name of the director we were already pulling the ticket to see it, but the fact that the characters and their actors do not cause us anything makes things that pass, we do not care and taking out the fact that in the end we only realize that there are great unanswered questions and that makes her look a bit more foolish.
Boyhood (2014)
Cinema in its purest form
Representation of an average American family, realism, no plot twists and a lot of shooting time. All that is "boyhood", the masterpiece of director Richard Linklater ("before dawn") and although released in 2014 does not lose the magic, with a classic Ethan Hawke in the director's films, but now playing a divorced father and Carefree that from time to time he has to see his children, the greatest Samantha (Lorelei Linklater) and Mason (Ellar Coltrane), the latter will focus the film and the progress both in his life and in his family.
The two of them live with their mother, played by Patricia Arquette, who earned her a well-deserved Oscar, because her performance was famous, demonstrating that pain and weight that a mother who puts on her shoulder a family, who, like every family, goes to have their problems, whether they be different foster parents or conflicts with Samantha's temperaments or Mason's disinterest.
Not a minor fact is that the film was shot for 12 years, they took a meeting per year where the corresponding scenes were recorded, this in order to show the growth of the actors in parallel with the characters and they achieve it perfectly, at times It seems that you see a documentary because of the realism it generates, and that is cinema at its best, without wanting to steal false tears or lying feelings, it only wants to show you a reality, a family and a person who seeks what to do with the life that I touch him.
Stuck in Love (2012)
The love and their views
Stuck in love is a great movie, as it has its comedic charm and just the right feeling to make you want to cry. In this film we are going to meet the Borgens family where his father (Greg Kinnear) an acclaimed writing suffers from great heartbreak after his wife (Jennifer Connelly) left him, we will also see his children, Samantha (Lily Collins) and stuky (Nat Wolff), who, although with different points of view about love, are going to experience it in a very troubled year for the family.
The performances by the young actors is amazing, Logan Lerman ( the perks of being a wallflower) dealing with a love interest character about Samantha was a great inclusion as it shows us the loneliness of someone in need of a distraction and Lily Colins lets on a wonderful performance in which at times we hate her and then she knows how to argue her denial of love. On the part of Liana Liberato being the girl of stuck's dreams, it is a great revelation, although I felt that they could see her given a little more prominence at the end of her plot.
In conclusion, as I said at the beginning, stuck in love is excellent and shows us that love is present at all times, without being corny, and being tough when it has to be.
