Parasyte: The Maxim (2014–2015)
9/10
This series will make you cry.
9 April 2021
Parasyte is a wonderfully sad series.

As an audience we follow Shinichi Izumi, a normal human who has so much to look forward to.

However, the parasites invade.

Following the plot gave me one of the most incredibly dramatic stories I've watched. I never tend to cry watching shows. This one broke me.

The soundtrack is one of the most fitting i've seen in a series. Specifically the opening works wonders.

Overall, we get to see our main character slowly lose his human traits and feelings-something we all experience. However, it's the journey of him re-finding his true nature that makes this series unique and beautiful.

There are so many heart-felt moments that make the gore of the series worth it. I highly advise watching this show. It taught me a lot about how I view people and society as a whole.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War (2019–2023)
9/10
Possibly the cutest love story I've seen.
8 April 2021
No love story should be this good, right?

Wrong.

The concept of "Love is War" is a very creative concept in relationships that kind of makes sense when you think about it.

More importantly, the kindling love between Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya is very cleverly written. Watching them interact is just cute and makes you want more. Amazingly for how opposite they are, they have a great chemistry that drives the plot.

The side characters Fujiwara, Ishigami, Miko, and others all have their own stories that are explored. This keeps the show invigorating and releases pressure on the main characters.

Along with plot, Love is War utilizes a spectacular soundtrack that fits the show well.

Not to mention, the animation is astounding. Absolutely some of the best i've seen alongside One Punch Man (s1). The animation makes many moments much more tense for the audience and helps establish many moments that makes the series wonderful.

Love is War is by far one of my favorite shows to ever have the pleasure of watching. There are only a few shows I have to read ahead on, and this is one of them. Watch it if you want a romance worth watching.

Sherlock (2010–2017)
9/10
A very impressive show.
8 April 2021
I'm impressed with how amazing this show is.

A modern day version of Sherlock wouldn't seem to be a good idea, but it's crazy how this show captivates you.

There are many genuinely hilarious moments throughout the show, and the writes knew how to keep you attentive.

Using Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock is one of the best actor choices I've seen for a role. He's able to play a psychopath scarily well. Martin Freeman does an astounding job playing support character John Watson.

Other than a few CGI scenes and some plot developments I personally disliked, this show is seriously one of the best remakes of the classic Sherlock Holmes we all know and love.

Attack on Titan (2013–2023)
10/10
Legendary show.

Warning: Spoilers
Isayama knows how to write a story.

Attack on Titan is by far the most well-written, well thought out shows of the modern era.

Following the story of Eren Yeager, we watch as he slowly descends farther down this rabbit hole until he hits his breaking point.

Starting from season 1, I thought I could predict the outcome of this story. One tone story. Obvious character plots. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong!

As a viewer, you are forced to watch 90% of your established characters vanish, vicious plot loops that blow your mind, and emotional scenes that guaranteed will make your heart stop.

Seasons 1-3 feel like a complete story. Isayama tells a beautiful story of sacrifice to save the island of Paradis from titans.

Season 4 feels like a sequel that wasn't needed but deserved to be made. Season 4 introduces the idea of how traumatized our main character has actually become. Watching him descend to insanity is painful but understandable. At the end you are torn between supporting and disliking Eren. It's written to make you feel as if you are no longer watching Attack on Titan.

Overall, this heart wrenching story is unbeatable when it comes to plot. Attack on Titan might be the best masterpiece of this era. If you haven't watched it, what's wrong with you? If you have and disliked it from episodes 1-8, keep watching. It is well worth the pain.

This show got me through 2020.
7 April 2021
I adore this show.

After a bad breakup I went through during 2020, I stumbled on this show. Tonikawa gave me hope again.

The soundtrack is excellent, and watching Nasa and Tsukasa discover their love for each other is unbelievably cute.

I used to think that a Crunchyroll Orginal's couldn't be a top tier animation of mine, but I stand corrected.

That being said there are some things that could've been more thoroughly explored/explained.

Overall, Tonikawa is one of my favorite love stories I have been able to watch. If you're looking for an introduction to the genre, this is a wonderful choice.

Code Geass (2006–2008)
8/10
Amazing show.
7 April 2021
I highly advise you watch this show.

Other than a few lazy write-offs for characters this series was spectacular.

Never before have I hated myself for continuing to watch a show. I felt like I was the one causing Lelouch's pain for subjecting him to the series.

While the show itself is very good the ending truly stomps any other ending to a show that i've seen so far.

Overall, amazing writing and character development. Watching Lelouch slowly go insane is actually painful.

Code Geass: Re; (2008)
Season 2, Episode 25
10/10
This ending is unfair.
7 April 2021
Pff- if you watched Code Geass and enjoyed it even slightly, then this ending was about as perfect as it can get.

Absolutely incredibly written. The audience knew what needed to happen; however, that inevitability was something we all secretly hoped wouldn't happen.

The series may have had it's bad parts, but the ending is spectacular.

Steins;Gate (2011–2015)
10/10
One of the smartest shows I've personally watched.
6 April 2021
When I started Steins;Gate, I knew nothing of the plot line or why people liked the show.

The introduction of Okabe Rintarou made me think of him as arrogant and an overall bad protagonist choice. Other characters such as Shina Mayuri and Itaru Hashida came off as strange.

The plot was interesting to say the least, and was the only reason I kept watching.

I remember thinking that the show was decent throughout the first half. It's a slow start to build the characters and concept. However, this is essential for the series to establish and ensure the audience understands what's happening.

That being said, the slow pacing pays itself off.

After episode 12, the show starts to crumble out from under itself as everything that was built slowly is capitalized and destroyed before the audience's eyes.

While I will keep the spoilers to a minimum, if you're reading this and have yet to watch this show, hold out until episode 13. It is well worth the time spent.

After another 12 episodes of rising action, the show brilliantly climaxes with episode 24.

The finale explains everything the audience believed to be strange about the series and brings it to a whole.

Then there's the OVA and movie. While they are not canon to the story, these works gives the closure needed for people (like me) who refused to take a 24 minute episode as a good enough climax and resolution.

Steins;Gate has some of the best character development I've ever seen. The author was able to take bizarre characters and make them one of my most favorite groups in history.

If you like the concept of time, watch this show. If you want to watch something that will likely make you cry, watch this show. If you want to see amazing writing, watch this show.

It's well worth the time taken to watch (coming from someone who finds watching shows/movies a waste of time).

Overall, this series has become and will remain my favorite show of all time with Attack on Titan right behind it.
