The Curse: Green Queen (2024)
I am really broadminded
But what happened in this last episode is surrealism without any substance. Instead of bringing all the episodes to a meaningfull conclusion director and writers have decided to ignore all plausability and ignore all common logic and went in a direction of 'we are out of ideas and we let a kindergarten come up with ideas and we pick the worst one' infantility and call it experimental television. If the show is about giving you a reality check in how reality tv nowadays functions without any moral it displayed that annoyingly well. But this message absolutely goes to waste in its last episode. I just cannot figure it out, I never thought I would say: "I just think too conventional!"
The Beekeeper (2024)
I am getting to old for these
I watch these payback slash revenge movies now literally 45+ years and knowing beforehand I am way to old for this I watch them anyways but only with my finger on the fast forward trigger at home. When first seeing Lock Stock... I never would have guessed he'd become the next big action star, a time when Willis was still going strong. So kuddos to him. I really like the guy but in this movie you see that also he, even when he is younger than me, is getting to old for this kind of hands on simplicity. It clearly misses the intreguing intelligence of 'Wrath Of Man' which suits Statham more in this age phase. In two scenes I really laughed out loud because of the ridiculousness. For the fun of it I assume it to be intentionally so a big hive five plus 1 because I like the guy.
Shôgun: Anjin (2024)
Not better than the original
Its ok, just better picture quality. Cosmo is no Richard Chamberlain, that is for sure so I have to get used to him. Do not get me wrong he is a great 'method' actor with a lot of emotional expression, but would not be my first choice for a love story. What I can remember it follows the same storyline, that is a shame and most important the same slow tv as the eighties hit show. I hoped for a more modern take on the whole, with better dialogue or at least some surprising twists. A theater approach with solid performances. A seven at best. Certainly nothing to get a subscription for. But good enough to 'slowly' binge.
Mein Führer - Die wirklich wahrste Wahrheit über Adolf Hitler (2007)
Chaplin
There comes a time to leave the past behind, especially when commenting on movies. The only thing that counts then is rating movies for what they are namely part of 'film history'. Therefore one can only say that this movie is the German counterpart of Chaplin's genius 'The great dictator'. Hitler performed by the most gifted German comedian of his time Helge Schneider, who controls himself perfectly, in bed between the professor and his wife, or in a yellow training outfit. It is time for Germans to make the best of their most shame full/traumatic experience in another genre but drama. And who could have done better then: Dany Levi, Helge Schneider, Ulrich Muehe. Jewish humor? German humor? I say good humor!
