The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2024)
This story will not leave you
After watching to trailer to this series, I made the decision to read the book before binge watching the series. Understandably, I knew there would be differences compared to the book for drama purposes. Regardless of this, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lali and Gita's story shine hope, beauty and romance despite their story evolving in one of histories most horrific times. It feels an incredible privilege to have known their experience, hardship and survival. Both are portrayed by incredible actors with superb on screen chemistry. The film set was eerily accurate and created a feeling of discomfort and fear for those in the story. The score further met the right balance for the more chilling scenes as well as the lighter moments. My only critique is I would have liked to have seen some scenes where Lali speaks different languages as this was one of the reasons he was kept alive in the concentration camps due to being able to translate. Adding this to the series would have made it more authentic rather than just using english through out. Nonetheless, I would highly recommend this to watch if you can stomach the horrors which emerged in Auschwitz to appreciate the love story between two holocaust survivors.
In Time (2011)
Was left wondering how
In Time wasn't one of the worst films I'd seen. I enjoyed the concept and all round it was a fun movie to sit and watch however I'd only wished they had put a bit more back story into the characters skills and choices. For example Timberlakes character not only inherits a large amount of time but it's accompanied by skills such as firing a gun and driving stunts that would take years of training and he's able to perform this skill without any explanation to it. Which irritates me. One minutes he's this poor ordinary guy that works in a low paying job with no skill to becoming a highly skilled driver who can shoot and tackle the 'Time Keepers'. Another example that annoys me is Seyfrieds character falling in love with Timberlakes character that she's known for minutes and decides to side with him over her family in a life and death situation. Realistically who would do that? Unless she's got some serious issues with her family. This again isn't really explained. I feel they could have added this to the story just to make things a little more realistic.
