El caso Asunta (2024)
Could've been 2 hours
This was so boring and ridiculous. It could've and should've been a 2 hour movie at best. The dubbing was horrible and the mothers "acting" was atrocious. All her constant whining and crying was so distracting. No actual resolution and you had to look up what actually happened to both of these idiots. Plus the fact that no plausible theory was even put forward. Why allude to a mystery theory and not get the actual reason why they killed their daughter?? The police and the judge seemed to be the only ones that actually wanted to solve the case and kept digging. Netflix loves stretching out these crime dramas too much and what should be maybe 2 episodes at the most turns into 6 or 8 and just keeps dragging on.
Great Photo, Lovely Life (2023)
self serving
I found this to be nothing more than a self serving documentary. Giving this evil predator any sort of sympathy throughout the documentary must have been heartbreaking to the actual victims. Saying your conflicted about this evil man and his evil deeds is insulting to the victims. Treating him like he was anything was not helping or healing anyone. I've read that this was no way to try and help victims of sexual abuse because it felt to me like they were actually just trying to get past it and silence would be the best thing to do. Explaining that the grandmother never said anything and kept her silence was another insulting part...everyone was at fault and no one takes any responsibility from the grandparents to the parent...they all knew and did nothing.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Faith meant nothing
This movie was terrible from start to finish. Having an actress the caliber of Ellen Burstyn return to a "sequel" should've been a good thing. Here she was relegated to a side story and then brutally attacked. There is zero explanation on why or how other than to allude to Haitian voodoo or some other nonsense. I think the worst part was the actual ending when they are trying to exorcise the 2 girls and save them. The special effects were typical of a poorly made possession film with a lot of smoke and mirrors. But the thing that got me the most was when it was time to save one of the girls the family who had actual faith in God lost and the man who didn't believe at all won. That's a poor statement to make and not at all how this should've ended. Save both or save neither would have at least redeemed it somewhat. Not scary at all and most of the time I was doing other things than paying attention.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Certainly not the original
While watching this snooze fest I was scrolling thru my phone more than I was watching the second half carnage. Sometimes less is more and sorry the director went so heavy handed with the blood and gore. I have loved horror movies since I was young and Halloween still ranks up there as one of my all time favorites. Having seen both the original Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 just sometimes a straightforward story works better. Seeing that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell exec produced this I was wondering if they were thinking how simple their original classic was but how much more effective. Trying at the end with a nod to The Shining and the elevator of blood felt tacked on and not the proper way to do an homage to an actual horror film. And don't even get me started on young children in these films...I know there's an entire crew there but come on how much terror can one child take??? I'll go back and watch the original and enjoy it much more.
Betrayal: The Perfect Husband (2023)
you get what you wished for
I had absolutely no problem with this guy being with all of these other women. She was the other woman at one point so why did she think she would be any different??? I felt no sympathy for this woman and was very frustrated with her whining and carrying on about him and his affairs. The problem I had was the assaults on the students. That is what you make this about not about the fact that he cheated on you from day one but the fact that he went after underage girls. This story is as old as time and happens again ad again and again. Move on with your life and stop complaining...and for the love of all that is holy STOP TAKING HIS CALLS FROM PRISON....she's just milking this for all she can get at this point. She's as much a narcissist ad he is.
The Little Mermaid (2023)
lost its charm
None of the charm of the original. Felt weird watching the live action because it wasn't cohesive. The girl was ok but her voice was annoying when she was trying to hit some of the notes. Flounder was flat which looked silly, Sebastian and Scuttle were more true to the original characters and Eric was blah...plus had a totally useless song and so did Scuttle and Sebastian which was totally unnecessary and grated on my nerves. Melissa McCarthy was ok but no match for the late great Pat Carroll. King Triton was just there and the sisters were flat as well. The whole movie just wasn't that good and the charm and warm feelings from the original were gone.
The Way Down: God, Greed and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin (2021)
Hair today...gone forever
This seemed to me like a leftist hit piece. I watched the entire series and not one time did I ever think for one minute this was a cult. You had the typical characters, the sad former members, the "experts" espousing their theories about how it was a cult, the old friends claiming to miss their friend who is part of the church and on and on and on. Did anyone hold a gun to the heads of any of these members and tell them stay or else? I'm not saying that Gwen Shamblin was for real but come on you could say the catholic church is a cult and look at all the money and land and priceless artifacts they have...same thing as this woman but that doesn't fit the leftist narrative. Overall I think this is a misguided attempt to slam the dead people and no proof of a cult has ever been determined.
Champions (2023)
Real Champions
This movie has everything you need. Simply a good film with a lot of respect for the actors involved. Woody Harrelson was sweet and so good trying his best to at first just get by and then little by little understanding and respecting the young adults for who they really are. The message is that Down Syndrome people are just that, people who want love, happiness, friends and respect. Thanks to Special Olympics for lending their support to what is a worthy movie. And the actors were just amazing and you just knew they would be champions no matter what. Being a parent of a Down Syndrome daughter this movie touched my heart and I ended up very happy!!
Love & Death (2023)
Hulu did it better
Why in the world did HBOMax decide they had to make the exact same movie that Hulu did less than a year ago? And who decided to make the women have hairstyles not even close to 1978-1980...Olsen looks like she just stepped out of the make up trailer onto the set and her friend with the red hair was distracting...she looked like a bad 1970's hooker...Not that Olsen isn't a good actress but I think Jessica Beal captured the real Candy much better. It's slow and plodding and didn't need to be 8 episodes...but for some strange reason hollywood has zero original ideas anymore and needs to just keep recycling the same garbage over and over. It's a mess and simply didn't need to be made.
Obsession (2023)
Lousy Damage remake do not waste your time
Having seen the incredible Louis Malle directed Damage and then watching this drivel I have to wonder who in the actual world thought this was a good idea? The lead characters are wooden, insipid, cliche ridden idiots. How in the world did on Indian parent and one white parent create one Indian child and one 1/2 white indian child. Indira Varma is totally wasted because she is a really good actress and gives this drivel the only emotion to the movie. And who thought they needed FOUR HOURS to tell what was effectively a 2 hour movie at best. There are no more original ideas in movie land anymore and this dreck proves it.
House of Darkness (2022)
Really?
This has to be one of the most boring, nonsensical movies I have seen in a long long time. Starts out promising and you're thinking this may be good but disinigrates into some mindless drivel and insanely stupid dialogue between the first two characters then goes on to include 2 more characters who add nothing. So in a nutshell..boy meets girl vampire, doesn't realize she's a vampire, then meets her 2 vampire sisters who come to play and in the end gets attacked and drained of all his blood. Yea it is a total spoiler filled review in the hopes that someone will read this and save themselves the hour and 40 minutes it took to reach that inevitable conclusion.
Hellraiser (2022)
Raise anything else but hell
This movie is so terrible I don't even know where to begin. Clive Barker one of the masters of horror knew how to make a movie, create tension and fear and bring it home at the end. All this movie does is confuse and make you not care at all about anything that happens. The cast is terrible and the lead actress is horrible and i'm hoping hollywood doesn't try and make her the next thing...this reimagining garbage has to stop because in trying to reach a whole new generation of horror fans it's totally destroying everything that we hold near and dear...the ability to be frightened by the original masters and enjoy the holy hell out of it. Oh and one more thing...CENOBITES ARE MEN NOT WOMEN.
Blonde (2022)
Exploitative garbage
If I could type the word EXPLOITATION 600 times I would. Who at netflix ever thought this garbage was a good idea? Simply destroying Marilyn for the sake of ratings is as low as you can get. She wasn't hurt enough, exploited enough, abused enough, harassed enough no netflix decided to go one step further with this convoluted not truthful rehashing of her story only this time they had to add these ridiculous not true stories about her early years in nauseating details with nothing to back them up. And why the hell are they trying so hard to make DeArmas a thing in hollyweird is beyond me...she's a lousy actress and the cuban accent is beyond distracting. All the way around this is horrible and netflix should let you give negative ratings.
Elvis (2022)
Elvis and a lot of makeup
Struggled to get through this. Austin Butler was amazing but the sheer gross actions of Parker as played by Tom Hanks ruined this for me. If this was really the way it was someone should've helped Elvis a little more than just enabled him. The rap music was ridiculous and the only time the movie hit the mark was when Butler would sing as Elvis because you could see the star power he had in real life. Had Luhrman done a straight biopic it would've been better but this was just all over the place. Way too long and many boring stretches as well. So happy I didn't pay to see this in the theater because J would've wanted my money back.
Gone in the Night (2022)
insanely stupid
When you can easily figure out the twist of a movie in the first 10 minutes you know you wasted your money. This movie is strange and insipid with wholly unlikeable characters. Never realized how bad an actress Winona Ryder really was until I watched this. It's just a silly premise and do not waste your time.
Virgin River: Mayday (2022)
Losing Hope
Hope is really getting on my last nerve. So tired of her negative attitude and general angry disposition. Doc is trying his best with her and she's just incredibly annoying at this point. The Jack storyline is also annoying...2 pregnant women in his life and one he's always mad at and the other he keeps whining about every little thing. The storylines seem to be dragging in season 4 and I'm hoping it gets more interesting in the latter episodes.
The Lost City (2022)
Poor man's Romancing the Stone
What in the world is Sandra Bullock thinking??? Aside of being a total ripoff of the above mentioned movie this was just as stupid as it looked. Sandra is an ok actress but as a worldwide bestselling author why would she ever appear in a jumpsuit in any capacity??? And Channing Tatum while handsome is about as charismatic as a bag of potatoes. Cameos never really help the plot along and this insipid movie needed all the help it could get. Douglas and Turner had the movie down cold about 30 years ago so I shut this one off and watched the original instead.
Billions: Johnny Favorite (2022)
Prince of self importance
The great thing about Billions was that Bobby Axelrod knew he was important and didnt care. Prince is completely unimportant and is desperate to be relevant. When this all breaks loose and I'm hoping desperately that he completely bombs out because he is so unlikeable and phony and has brought this show down because of it's woke BS and virtue signaling. This season has been nothing short of annoying and when you are hoping for the "good guy" to fail it's not a good sign. I always wanted Axe to win no matter what...Prince I just want destroyed and penniless with no one around him.
Secrets of Playboy (2022)
how much were they paid?
I don't believe one ounce of any of the stories these women are saying because in one capacity or another they stayed...some for years after being what they call a "victim" especially Sondra the girlfriend of Hefner for 5 years that claims to have witnessed him sexually assaulting a woman and doing NOTHING about it. I don't care if you went to the police and they did a half assed investigation and turned up nothing how many woman could you have saved from the same fate if you just spoke up 40-50 years ago???? I would like the producers of this "documentary" to release how much these women were paid for their stories and were they told to say the worst about him. Friends of his have come out and said when they were interviewed they were asked to tell anything bad about Hefner and when they refused the interview was over. And after all these years WHY NOW??????
The Tinder Swindler (2022)
swindled really???
I get that these women considered themselves victims but really who the hell just blindly keeps giving a virtual stranger hundreds of thousands of dollars without question??? And all of the people who he scammed who falls for this??? He reminded me of a slimy weasel and his pictures all looked photoshopped. I just don't understand how in the world anyone fell for this con.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
gen Xers get theirs
Not bad but as scary as a box of kittens...the original was still the best and you cannot improve it no matter how hard you try. Best scene is on the bus...i totally laughed out loud although I'm not sure that is what they intended you to do. Tight filming at 84 minutes makes it bearable but still not the original Tobe Hooper masterpiece.
Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer (2021)
worn out story
Woke crap from netflix...we get it prostitution is bad, times square was a dump, no one cared about the "sex workers" but what really got me is when the "doctor" claimed that pimps were portrayed as heroes in the blaxploitation films...come on no one EVER said a pimp was a good guy or hero 🙄 netflix needs to stop spending 3 hours on something that could be done in 1 hour tops.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Mormon Advantage (2021)
lost in TDS
This season has been so lackluster. I used to laugh at least once in every episode but now find it very hard to even crack a smile. Suzy is still my favorite character but even she has lost her bite. David's TDS is on full display in the finale having that "whistleblower" heresay conman on as a hero doing a talk at a Holocaust museum was just sickening. And even in Larry world where anything goes who would steal shoes from a Holocaust museum...EVER????? Maybe time for HBO to put this to bed and move on and try and find something funnier to broadcast.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Lost In NY
What in the world happened to SATC? And who felt the need to greenlight this boring woke crapfest. I knew the minute they explained Samantha away it was going to be bad but I didn't know just how bad it was going to get. All the woke boxes have been checked to keep this ridiculously stupid show going. This garbage is so exhausting on a daily basis that hopefully this will only last one short season and we will be given a huge break.
What Lies Below (2020)
Invasion of the good story snatchers
Fast forwarded through so much of this so i'm sure I was missing important plot points in this garbage. Did stop long enough to hear the Trump insult and wondering if netflix will add an insult to the current "president" to their next piece of garbage they spew out.
