Sea Fever (2019)
Surprisingly good?
This movie really caught me off guard. A slow start, but it plays out decently. Nothing feels forced, everything is explained to a certain degree, and it's not just "JUMPSCARE HAHA SEE IM A SCARY MOVIE", it's actually well done all things considered. It doesn't try to be something it isn't, it doesn't force character development and low-tier scare tactics down your throat, and it navigate some of these tropes from a fresh perspective. Some of the CGI is a little cheesy, not a super big fan of the ending, but all in all I definitely recommend this to people and watch it again.
7 out of 10, would get thalassophobia again.
The Other Lamb (2019)
It wants to be good
I never heard of this movie before putting it on. Didn't look up anything, hadn't heard anything, just watched it because it popped up. And, you know, for a random click it really wasn't half bad, but that doesn't mean it's a good movie. As others have stated, the cinematography is great, the ambient music is solid, the emotion can be somewhat intense...but I found myself laughing more than I thought, which is a really bad sign since this movie is not supposed to be funny. There's an odd comedic timing in some of the more "intense" scenes, some of which are probably heart wrenching to some, but for my viewing, it was the equivalent of watching Red from That 70's Show slap the back of Erics.
The pacing of the movie isn't terrible but can be slow at times, the dialog is hit or miss, I don't know, I wouldn't say I would recommend this movie, but it's predictable, slightly boring, but fun to watch (I guess) when you don't really feel like looking for anything else. I've seen worse, but I've certainly seen better.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Why is this getting good reviews?
I am amazed at how many people actually liked this burning pile of garbage. After finishing this series tonight, for the first time ever, I felt like I had to make an account and warn people not to fall into this trap of a series, because myself, and everyone I watched this with, were left yelling at the television once this show "finished", if you can even call that an ending.
What started off as a good idea quickly deteriorated as each episode continued. Ideas and things were brought up, touched on very quickly, and then left to die (no pun intended). This has to be one of the laziest and most apparent cases of "What do we do next? Spin the wheel!" I've ever seen.
The second to last episode is the worst episode of any show I've ever seen. It's boring, it poorly explains what has been happening, and did I mention it's boring? You know what's a good way to kill all tension and interest? Having a terrible "story teller" say the same thing 50x over at a snails pace. I mean HOLY **** that was insufferable.
Don't even get me started on the abandoned doll house, the unexplained phenomenon of body snatching, and why ANY of this matters of all they're going to boil this entire terrible garbage fire down to is "AWWWW TRUE LOVE LOL".
The show is boring, the writing is terrible, the acting is abysmal (when Danni is being choked drag down the driveway I swear to god her face is the stupidest thing I've ever seen, not to mention that dreadful 'WoOoOoOw' she barfs out earlier in the series).
There are two people in this world. People who liked Bly Manor, and people who hated it. Do yourself a favor, do not watch Bly Manor. You will be more entertained watching a rock grow moss than exposing yourself to this never ending nightmare.
The only reason why I'm giving this more than one star is because they actually tried to do something here, but their follow through was laughable, and clearly do not know how to write an ending at all.
This show was not perfectly splendid. It was perfectly terrible garbage.
