Don't Miss Hostages!
15 July 2019
From the very first episode Hostages commands its viewers attention and doesn't let it go until the very last episode of Season 2! Unlike the American remake, Hostages cleverly weaves surprises, intrigue as well as a considerate amount of character development for a short time span show. Pros: -Great casting, and believable acting -Loved the soundtrack, added perfectly to the intensity of each scene -Intriguing plot -The cinematography is visually striking, particularly if you like older buildings

Enjoyable
9 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While slow at times I thought the acting was decent for a low-budget film, better on behalf of Zach Kanner than Devin. He was a convincing likeable sicko. While her character fell a bit flat. I didnt like or dislike her, which meant I wasn't really rooting for her either way. She didn't seem very special... It would have been nice to know more about their backgrounds, which we never do. However, there were some unique concepts that made for an enjoyable film if you have nothing better to do. My only big question is what kind of woman was he married to before since he is clearly mentally unstable. He demands complete obedience/submission and uses force to get it, yet still wants her to be happy and love him there's definitely a massive psych file behind that... So did he treat his wife this way? Or he just became this unstable after losing her...

Alice Creed is Better
9 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly after watching both versions, The Disappearance of Alice Creed is much better. I have nothing against reading subtitles, in fact I enjoyed listening to the Dutch, but the casting was way off for this one. I thought that all three main characters fit better in the British version. Alice had more personality, Vic was a thug yet we saw his tender side other than an intense kissing scene, and Danny looked like he could be someone's prison bitch as well as Alice's lover. Sorry but other than the submissive eyes Rico never looked like he was all that in it. Also, the flourescent lighting in Alice, compared to the dark rooms of Reckless, made for a more intense interrogation room feel.

Worth Watching, but not for date night
9 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Apartment 407 is a not a date night movie. It is however a gut wrenching reminder of the evils that exist in our society and that no matter our background we're all within the clutches of those who wield it. Duped by a charming man that she could earn some extra cash Isobel (Frida Farrell) agrees to attend a photoshoot. Once trapped inside the building, Peter's (Gabriel Olds) friendly demeanor changes on a dime. Isobel quickly realizes the mistake she's made, but it's too late... Solid performances by Frida Farrell and Gabriel Olds especially considering the subject matter of the film. However, I was genuinely impressed by Olds' performance. His ability to switch between personable businessman to a menacing villain was haunting. I did however, feel that there were some loose ends. Was Isobel actually pregnant? We know that Peter/Patrick lies and we never see the pregnancy test so was that just a way to control her? Also, did she end up getting AIDS from that man who said he, "has it too." Other than that great movie.

Simply Awful
9 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first review, but I thought I owed it to anyone planning on watching this terrible movie. Firstly, it is just so ridiculously unbelievable it hurt. I can't count how many times I rolled my eyes. They decide to open with their main actress drinking in a bar yet she looks maybe 17, a little contrived. The behaviour of the detective was so unprofessional it was unrealistic to think that they'd be treating a victim that way. Not to mention how painful his acting was. I'm not sure if it's just me, but the main actress' voice just drove me nuts. Then we get to where she's held prisoner in her captor's basement. Not once does she ever try to escape, this makes for a painfully slow dragging experience. She had a perfectly good opportunity to jab him with the sedative when he undid her chains, yet she did nothing (even though she's being chained up and being forced to wear a diaper...) This seemed highly unbelievable. We're supposed to believe that she was held captive for 5 months, yet they never show any progression of time or character development. The ending of course was also disappointing. After discovering he's a murderous psychopath, nothing happens with this information... I expected her to go back to the farm and save the last victim's life, but that would be asking too much. I had to watch to the end because I had an inkling of hope that it would get better, but I was wrong!
