Don't watch this show if you ever want to feel joy in your heart ever again.
13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously. I loved this show, but Murphy broke my heart so many times. Let down after let down. I wish we could have gotten to more of the root of Murphy's self destruction, but what did I expect. She finally starts to open up in the last season, but we're left wanting more. She was given chance after chance, none of which she deserved. She is one of the most narcissistic characters I have ever watched. Lower your expectations if you expect a happy ending for any character on this show. Be prepared for extreme highs and crashing lows. Don't get attached to anyone. As for the final episode, I felt as though we got a bit of closure, but I actually hated it. Best to just go in blind, pun not intended.

I feel cheated.

Warning: Spoilers
Hey. I spent 8 seasons with these people. I suffered through season 7 Joan. That was not the series finale I deserved. Not even a fast forward into the future to see how things end? Please.

That is all.

Not enough tolerance
28 March 2021
I wanted to like this show, I really did. It was different, had a good premise. But the characters absolutely ruined it for me. The children are absolutely unwatchable. I hated them so much, if I ever happen to see them in real life I would slap them all. Maybe other people have a higher tolerance, but I was just so angry and disgusted I couldn't finish the series.

Masterpiece

My God, this show. If you are looking for a show that will make you laugh hysterically one minute and immediately transition into ugly crying, this is the show for you. This show made me feel feelings I didn't know I could, and some I wasn't yet ready to. Ricky Gervais is a treasure, a gift to us. He is so talented and versatile, I highly recommend this show.

Six Feet Under (2001–2005)

I've never hated a fictional family more than the Fishers.
9 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I even start. I just finished this show, and I could NOT wait to write this review. This show was recommended to me, and after sifting through the other reviews, I thought it must be pretty great. I finished the first episode and I thought it was OK, maybe it'll get better as it goes on. Yes, it's unique and tackles death in a different way, the story lines weren't anything spectacular to me. The only thing that seemed to increase as I went through season after season was my hate for pretty much all of these characters. Let's dive in.

Ruth Fisher: The matriarch of this dysfunctional family. From the fist episode I did not care for Ruth. With all her outbursts and emotional breakdowns, I found her character extremely unpleasant. The way she bounced from man to man, desperately searching for happiness because she was incapable of making her own was pathetic and sad. I could not for the life of me figure out how she had any friends throughout the series, I found her to be a terrible person.

Nate Fisher: The prodigal son. My first impression of Nate was that he was a free spirit, the black sheep of the family who had to venture out to find himself. No. Nate was just a terrible person. Ego maniac, narcissist. Nate was so angry all the time and resentful of his family. With what few flashbacks we saw, I couldn't see any reason for this. His parents didn't abuse him physically or sexually, they didn't neglect him. Yes, he grew up in a funeral home, but boo hoo. Where did he get off thinking he could ravage the lives of so many others, just because? The way he treated Brenda, and pretty much any other women he came into contact with was appalling. He is unfaithful, gets some other woman pregnant, and acts like it's everyone else's fault. He becomes angry with Lisa and claims she "trapped him into marriage", but it takes two. He states many times how unhappy he is with her, how much he wants out and how much he does not love her whatsoever. But when she passes away, he becomes a sullen shell of a person, like he has just lost his best friend. Make up your mind! Did you hate her, or what? Seriously. I almost stopped watching because of this story line. All his outbursts and how he treated his family when they were just trying to console him, because someone he didn't even love had died. Whatever. I have never been happier to see someone die before. But when Nate flat lined, I was elated. I wish it had been slower and more painful for him. I hope his character is burning. Oh, and for killing that beautiful blue bird? I wish someone would have done that to you. It was just living. You were a parasite.

Claire Fisher: This character seemed to be SO inconsistent. The first season she was misunderstood outcast, whatever. But as the show progressed, she never developed her own personality. I felt as though she was completely fake the entire time. She was however a completely spoiled brat. She felt entitled to the world yet worked for nothing. By the last season, I couldn't tell if she was on drugs the entire time, or if she had just fried her brain to the point of no return. Glassy eyed, irrationally screaming all the time. Yeah, no thanks. I couldn't and never will take her seriously as an "artist".

Nathaniel Fisher Sr.: Now, I didn't get much of a feel for him, but what I could gather was he was just unhappy in life. Yeah, he had all these secrets he kept from his family. Were they malicious? Nah. Harmless. He was just trying to break up the monotony of life. And if I had to go home to Ruth everyday, I would have had a secret life too.

David Fisher: Now I actually really loved David. He was the saving grace of the show. Without him, I would have stopped watching. He gave me hope, he was the only actual good, pure member of this family. Sure, he had some bumps in the road on the journey of coming out, but we all have those rocky periods when we are coming into our own. He was so genuine with his entire family, even when they treated him like garbage. He stuck by Keith because he loved him so much, even when Keith was a terrible human being. He comforted his extended family in crisis. He adopted two boys who had been thrown away by the world and the system and changed their lives, and loved them more than anything. He was the true black sheep of this family. He did not belong, and they did not deserve him. I'm so glad he was able to have a long life with Keith and that he was able to know true love. He deserved it.

Rico (honorable mention): Rico wasn't a bad character, but the Fisher's definitely rubbed off on him. What he became throughout the seasons was really hard to watch.

All in all, I would not recommend this show honestly. I don't see where people come to the conclusion that this "is the best show ever made", but I am entitled to my own opinion just as they are. The entire last season felt like one big fantasy of one of the characters. I kept waiting for them to get back to reality, but it never happened. I'm glad they all died. Eventually.

Fred Savage, where have you been?
18 January 2019
I adore this show, and I was so happy it came back for another season.I have had so many laughs with these characters, I don't know why the rating isn't higher. I love the story and the fact that people can actually stay friends this long. Fred Savage completely steals the entire second season. I never thought I would find Kevin Arnold so hilarious and animated. I hope he does more acting roles. This show is amazing, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Dear White People (2017–2021)
8/10
I love this show. Aaaaaaand, I'm white.
19 May 2018
After seeing the title of this show, of course I added it to my watch list. Anything that makes fun of white people, sign me up. It was nothing like what I expected, it was better. There is humor, and I feel like there is a lot of witty banter going on between the cast. Intelligent. No, I don't get some of it, but I'm not supposed to. I read through the reviews, ripping this show apart, and it's just sad. This is not a racist show against white people. Puh-lease. Yes, this is a fictional show dramatizing a fictional school, but this is shown from a black point of view, of things that people really have to go through. Why do we have to attack everything that is different? As a white person, I know the color of my skin has in ways made my life easier, and that makes me feel incredibly guilty. I enjoyed seeing life from a different point of view, one that is unfair and infuriating. Did the people that gave this show 1 star feel butt-hurt because it called out your white privilege and embarrassed you? Good. If you don't like this show, don't watch it. Simple as that.

This should be titled, "Everyone Wants To Bone Amber."
20 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know how I happened upon this show, I think I needed background noise for something, but it sucked me in. I've cried more times than I care to admit, and even found myself yelling at the TV a few times. However, one thing that never ceases to amaze me: every single dude that came in contact with Amber got that glazed look over his face, and then proceeded to, or try to, sleep with her. Did I miss something? Aside from Mark (Sarah is an idiot), every single guy. I should make a YouTube montage. I get that she was supposed to be some cool laid back chick, but after awhile it was nauseating. All in all it's a good show, it touches on a lot of things I've not seen TV shows get into. It definitely hooked someone who despises this genre.

A Fitting End IMO
10 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I'm probably the only one who felt satisfied with the ending to this series.

Throughout the show, we're told and lead to believe, that Rory is this pious being, so perfect in everything she does, this amazing future journalist. Everything she touches turns to gold. She holds herself on some pedestal. But what we finally were able to see is that she didn't live up to her own hype. She wrote one good piece for a magazine, and felt like she was above any job lower. She was beyond breaking it off with a guy who appeared to adore her, yet she couldn't be bothered to remember his name, let alone be faithful to. I think in the end, Rory got what she deserved. She was so arrogant, and in the end, she ended up alone, jobless, and pregnant out of wedlock. The father of the baby was even left to mystery. Was it the Wookie? Logan? Nothing against single mothers, but I'm sure she never thought she'd end up in that position herself.

Everyone that Rory cast off from her perfect life ending up doing so much better than her in the end. She did them a favor.

I'm also glad Michele was finally released from the closet. He was such a great character.

One thing that finally dawned on me was that, while Rory was touted as this great role model for young girls, it should have been Paris all along. She was a mess during the series sure, but she turned out amazing. An independent, successful doctor who in no way needed a man to complete her life. I would take her over Rory any day.

But all in all, while I'm sad to see the show come to it's final end, I think ended the way it should have. I too could have done without all the musical numbers though.
