The Last of Us: When You're Lost in the Darkness (2023)
Familiar Chills
Hits just as a hard if not more than it did the first time years ago.
Last of Us (2013) was an unforgettable experience and this adaptation not only seeks to justly reiterate but expand the scope of the characters. Taking that bit of extra time with Sarah was well spent. Solid performance by Nico. You really do buy into her becoming a protagonist. The hectic opening of the panicked civilians was just like the game and induced the same anxious thrills.
I was initially lukewarm on some of the casting prior to viewing but I'm mostly sold on it now. Pedro is a great Joel, you really see it in his eyes and mannerism. Bella I was least sure about but I'm definitely hopeful going forward into the series.
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
Hope (in...) destroys nihilism
Vecna is the embodiment of all corrupted existential philosophies.
"Such widespread phenomena as depression, aggression and addiction are not understandable unless we recognize the existential vacuum underlying them."
- Viktor E. Frankl
Vecna's victims have been bitten by this bug; their past trauma and how they've interpreted it those events, and it's that which Vecna seeks to exploit.
Nihilism is a consequence of world view, and despair are it's rotten fruits. Vecna manifests that despair to it's furthermost conclusion. Nihilism in its final stage is violent. Destroying the world and our bodies.
How do we ward of meaninglessness? By obtaining meaning.
El portrays this in her rainbow room battle with 001. She attempted to pull on anger and hurt and it failed. She then reminisced on her life and value, and that's what empowered her.
If you want to destroy despair, you must first reject all that tries to convince you that you're nothing; a pest, a cosmic mistake.
Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy (2021)
Prevention is better than cure
To all the people that say the documentary is wrong and biased because it doesn't criticize victims of the policy, don't you understand that prevention is better than cure? If the policy on allowing cocaine into the borders was never formed, then you wouldn't have addicts in the numbers that we see. Understand that this is a top to bottom issue.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021)
Unreal Engine 3 anyone?
Yikes... a bit uncanny, would have much more preferred a stylized cgi, something with a bit more heart.
Solar Opposites (2020)
I'm here for the small people
The small people arc seemingly starts off as a throwaway gag, then it goes to a C plot then a B plot and eventually has full blown episodes dedicated to the small people. This is what separates it from Rick and Morty.
The main cast of aliens aren't going anywhere. Like the simpsons, the end credits serve as a reset button to the next episode. But that's not the case for the small people, harm is permanent. The stakes are higher and it's a lot more thrilling and enjoyable to me.
WandaVision (2021)
Marvel does creative stuff now??
Alright so 5 episodes in and it's real great and has loads of potential for the entire cinematic universe. The first 2 episodes are pretty boring, things pick up in episode 3 and by 4 and 5 it turns into something amazing. Don't let the episode 1 and 2 deter you from the show. (Honestly you could probably just watch the last 2 mins of episode 1 and 2 and be fine) This show would have greatly benefited from having all the episodes released at once. It made sense for Disney to do the week to week thing for the Mandalorian, but it doesn't work all that great for this show. If you're patient, probably would be best to just binge the season
