Crossroads (2002)
Why so poorly rated??!!
I am not ashamed to say that I love this movie. Its cute, funny and touching. Maybe its not the most artistic or dramatic movie but its not trying to be. I'm not going to sit here and argue that Britney is a really talented actress or whatever but shes not bad, shes believable in her character. The other cast members are great too, Zoe Saldana gives a truly powerful performance and was definitely the star of the film.
I think the reason for the low rating is because of Britney spears. The minute this movie came out people got the idea into their head that Crossroads was going to be a bad attempt into making Britney a triple threat. News Flash: Britney was ALWAYS a triple threat and this movie just proves her potential. Yes, no one can deny that Crossroads was used as publicity for Britney's 2002 album but if you just look beyond that, there is so much more to this movie!!
Crossroads inspires you to follow your dreams and the underlining message of this film is that friendship can over-come anything.
"Don't make me do what she did. Don't make me run. Just let me go"
Popular (1999)
outstanding! should not have ended so soon.
First of all I have to state that popular is a simply amazing show! ALL the characters are hilarious and each has a great story behind them.
When I first started watching popular my first thought was "how great another average teen comedy-drama about popular and unpopular teenagers in a stereotypical high school" which was, I am sure, many other peoples first impression. But as I continued to watch I realized that popular is definitely NOT your typical teen comedy-drama.
Popular is often satirical and sarcastic as well as incredibly heartfelt and dramatic. It does everything in its power to sort of push the boundaries of popularity and prove that nobody is perfect, even blonde beautiful cheerleaders.
I really believe that popular should have made at least another 2 seasons, it certainly had enough potential! There are plenty of TV shows that are not nearly as good as popular and that have made Way more than 2 seasons!! The entire cast is incredible and if more seasons had been made maybe more people would have realized these actors potential and they would have become as famous as they deserve to be. Carly Pope in particular is strikingly beautiful and very talented. Tammy-Lynn Michaels and Leslie Bibb are also amazing and deserve more roles.
Bottom line: watch popular, it will make you laugh, cry and you see yourself in at least one, if not all the characters :)
American Beauty (1999)
dark and painful yet hilarious and beautiful
Before I saw this movie i had only heard good reviews. All of them were right though!! This movie is so incredible! I found myself crying at the end because it was so beautiful. American beauty, although unrealistic at times, is a movie we all can relate to, the symbolism was outstanding! The roses especially were a brilliant representation of love, anger and beauty. American beauty is a masterpiece, it is extremely complex and dark but it is hilarious at the same time. All the actors give off their best performance and mena suvari is incredible and stunning in her role. American beauty is a movie that everyone should see
The Notebook (2004)
wonderfully charming
the notebook is going to become a classic! it is so beautiful and romantic. the story has been done before, you know, two people from different backgrounds fall in love and whatnot, but the notebook captures the tale in a unique way.....
Rachel McAdams is gorgeous and excellent as Ali! Ryan gosling has an incredible charm, as does James garner. the supporting actors add a little extra to the movie.
the notebook is the most romantic movie i have ever seen! it leaves the magical, yet true, message that love over comes all and true love never dies.
Garden State (2004)
nothing short of a masterpiece
I'm not really sure if my comment contains spoilers, but just in case.
i am Zach braffs biggest fan, so i expected quite a lot of this film. i was not disappointed! garden state has the right amount of humor, drama and romance. one thing i was very impressed with was the soundtrack, i found it complimented the movie very well! garden state is quite complex, so some people may not enjoy it, which is understandable. personally, i loved everything about this movie. Zach braff has definitely proved he can write and direct as well as act. Natalie portman was practically radiant as Samantha, she is the true star of garden state(although the rest of the cast was outstanding too)
i thought this was one of the most beautiful movies i have ever seen. i found how Andrew was able to love Samantha and able to feel something after being numb his whole life so incredibly moving!
if you enjoy art films or if you like any member of the cast, garden state will not disappoint you!
Notes on a Scandal (2006)
beautiful portrayal of loneliness
when i saw the trailer for this movie my first thought was "this looks excellent!" and i was so right! i walked out of the movie theater feeling almost mesmerized and for about two days this movie was all i could think about. notes on a scandal is very realistic although most people have not been in this particular situation, many of us can relate to the loneliness portrayed in this movie. we have all at one point in our lives experienced feeling lonely, even when surrounded by people. i gave notes on a scandal 8/10 because for some reason that rating seemed to fit. i recommend this movie to people who like the more complex films (this film is definitely not for the faint hearted). the acting is excellent and so is the script. it deserves all the Oscar nominations
Unfabulous (2004)
wannabe Lizzie Mcguire
Unfabulous is possibly one of the most annoying shows on t.v. Emma Roberts is actually a very good actress, so why is her talent being wasted on this?! Unfabulous revolves around Adie Singer, a normal girl who writes incredibly stupid songs, which don't really make sense. This show is not relevant to teenage life. The plot suggests that all teenage girls do is argue with their friends, have crushes on boys and worry about their appearance! Unfabulous should not be on t.v. Rather watch reruns of "Lizzie Mcguire", it is funny and has a good message. It is obvious that Unfabulous is a wannabe "Lizzie Mcguire" like so many preteen shows now. I think Unfabulous had the right idea but it just ends up looking tacky.
Saved! (2004)
funny with a very good message
Before I saw this movie everyone said it was making fun of Christians. I didn't see why this was so bad, there have been many movies making fun of Jewish and Indian people and no one said a word, so I watched the movie. What I saw was not offensive to Christians at all! It was a touching story about taking religion too seriously and I don't think it was specifically aimed at Christians. This movie is one of the best ever made! It was hilarious, but it had a very good message. I loved Mandy Moore as the "perfect" Christian girl! The rest of the actors and actresses were excellent too. See this movie if you are in the mood for something lighthearted or if you like movies with good messages. I think this is a movie that everyone should see, no matter what religion you are.
The Grudge (2004)
good story,bad movie!
Before I saw this movie, a friend of mine told me that it was so scary that she almost cried. So one day, when I was feeling adventurous, I decided to watch the movie. I was extremely disappointed. It was funny rather than scary! I mean, that croaking noise? what was that about? I thought the story was really amazing, they could of done so much more with it! I would like to see the Japanese version and see if that is any better. I don't know what happened with this movie because their are some other Japanese remakes which are brilliant such as "the ring" and my personal favorite,"dark water". I think people have to decide what their view is for "the grudge"
Carrie (1976)
The book was way better!
If you thought this movie was scary you obviously haven't read the book.Even though I only gave the movie 6 out of 10 I would give the book 10 out of 10 Ill admit there were some scary parts but the book went into so much more detail. If you have read the book you'll know what I'm talking about. There were a few crucial parts in the book which they left out of the movie. In the book there was a lot more about carries mother which I found very interesting. I can imagine how hard it must be to make a movie exactly like the book but I think they could of put more from the book in the movie. In the movie everything seemed to happen in a flash but in the book there was a lot more suspense. On the upside Sissy Spacek was amazing as Carrie and the rest of the cast was good too, they looked exactly how I imagined them(I kind of wanted John Travolta to play tommy though). So the bottom line is, if you enjoyed the movie,READ THE BOOK!
Thirteen (2003)
Thirteen is not unrealistic
This is an amazing movie! Being a teenager myself i could relate to the movie better than an adult could. A lot of people will look at this movie and think that it is being unrealistic but believe me, I know plenty of thirteen year olds like the girls in this movie. A lot of people think you are supposed to feel sorry for tracy(the main carachtor in the movie)but the point of the movi is to make people realise what the teenages of today are being exposed to. Hopefully thirteen will be an eye opener for parents and other people who are too naive to see what is happening to the youth of today.
I cant believe Thirteen didn't win an Oscar. Thirteen is one of the best movies of all time.
