Paper Spiders (2020)
Beautiful and strong movie about delusional disorder, love and navigating in life
Beautiful and vulnerable movie about mental illness - delusional disorder and strong family bonds between mom and daughter. Very touching and well performed for both actresses.
An interesting movie. At first ones gets to slowly understand how bad the mother's state is as she gets more and more ill due to stress of her daughter going away for college. Then the strong daughter who manages her own life, building a relationship with a guy who's an addicts and navigating in school etc., meanwhile her mother is getting more and more paranoid. The daughter needs to act on her mother as well as taking the right decisions for herself. Its a real dilemma and she has to grow up fast. Underneath lies also a deep sorrow as Melanie (daughter) has lost her dad due to heart failure.
I think its a great twist that the problem with the neighbor, whom the mom believes is attacking her, in the end is resolved so that Dawn (the mom) realizes that she is actually ill.
A good movie to see to understand delusional illness as well as how its affecting their relation.
Hwayugi (2017)
This series struck my mind and heart
Let me just say it like it is: I freaking loved this series! I found the actors hilarious and different, well dressed (like wow!), the plot was at first a bit scary, hilarious and then very beautiful, romantic and wonderfully fantasy tale. Let there be MORE!
I loved the story and how the characters develops, the tenderness between Son O-Gong and the Samjang, their bond from girl and demon to destiny and true love. I thought the theme song was so beautiful and it made my heart melt! "When I saw you..." I know this is silly but wow I felt like a giggling girl who's heart was melting in their romance as well as intrigued by their fantasy demon story.
I loved the demon aspect, how Son-OGong was connected to a monkey and the others had their own animals (forgotten their names now), which was high lightened with sounds.
I was so surprised stumbling on this series, enjoying this fantastic Korean series so much. I really wished they would continue the story, as it ends very open....
More more more please!
Le voyage au Groenland (2016)
I love this movie, it's spot on!
I saw this move one night after being in Sisimiut for two months and my god, it cracked me up! The french and Greenlandic cultural barriers clash multiple times and when you've been to Greenland you understand it even better.
I recommend this movie to people going to Greenland as its a very good cultural introduction even though many things are not alike in other more modern cities like Illulissat, Sisimiut, Nuuk etc. Fx seals heart eating, a whole town non-alchoholic etc, but many things are still alike like sealhunting, the emptying of toilets in the tank, little variety in the supermarkets etc.
I loved to understand the lyrics in the Greenlandic rock band by subtitles to hear their frustration and to hear their words, not often are things translated so one is missing out a lot when living in Greenland. I also found the romance between Thomas and the Greenlandic girl to be more profound in context as it is a problem in many Greenlandic villages with suicide unfortunately.
I found myself laughing out loud numerous times throughout the movie and I find it to be hilarious and so well played! Such good actors with great skills in acting, a fantastic plot and it just leaves you with a strange feeling of such different cultures. A very interesting and marvelous cultural movie that I really recommend.
