The Best of Men (2012)
Inspirational Rare Find
This movie was the telling of a story of a man dedicated to repairing broken bodies, broken mental/emotional minds and broken spirits. It is a movie that shows what offering hope can do to help heal the ravishes of devastation. It's hard to find a movie today that provides inspiration. Story tellers and movie makers today like the shock and awe effect, believing they have created "art" when in reality it's just another pathetic formula story. So my hat is off to the story tellers and actors of this movie. You made me feel good and to realize there are good people out there!
Fartblinda (2019)
Could Have Been A 10
This series had all the makings of 10 out of 10 rating. The acting was extremely top notch. The first 6 episodes had weaved together a compelling and suspenseful story. For me it TOTALLY fell apart in the seventh episode. With evidence of her lover being a crooked bank executive with extremely dubious morals she decides to hop in bed with him anyway. And for his part, he knows she advancing her career at his expense. She is exposing all the wrong doings by him and his executive colleagues. Yet, he dumps his family and continues sleeping with her. A more realistic scenario would have him fuming over her actions. "Get the story at all costs" bodies start dropping all around her, including her friend, the confidential informant that gave her all the inside info. She sheds a few tears, but keeps going as other lives drop. There are other "you've got to be kidding me moments. Like when she uses her tremendous breaking and entering skills and miraculously finds the flash drive containing the smoking gun. The last two episodes ruined the first six for me. It truly was promising. Poor writing!
Young Wallander (2020)
Integrity to consistency missing
The fans of the previous two Wallander series that tuned in to Young Wallander are bound to be disappointed that the new series timeframe is not consistent with that of its predecessors. Adam Palsson is a good actor and does well carrying the lead in this presentation. In keeping with the first two series the timeframe would've had to be the 70's.......for those too young to know, cell phones were a good 20-30 years away. Young Wallander uses a smart phone, looks like an iPhone. They easily could've called this series something other than Wallander which would have in no way impacted the premise of the show. So why call it a Wallander where comparisons would obviously be made....except for reasons of drawing a ready made audience. I am watching this series independent of the lead character growing into the older version of Kurt Wallander.
Cheat (2019)
Predictable Formula TV movie
Anyone that says this is a great thriller is a fan of predictable, overdone movies. This plot line has been done adnauseum! Wife ticks off other women, other women seeks revenge, other woman goes after wife's career to destroy it, then other woman successfully seduces loving but weak husband, other woman wreaks havoc on wife's friends. Typically, one or two of wife's relatives and/or friends end up dead. In this case the stupid unloyal husband. Wife gets blamed because other woman is an evil master manipulator. This is classic Lifetime Movie Channel fare. If you liked this I would recommend Bad Samaritan with David Tennent. Same plot but with a man as the protagonist. First 7/8 of the show is evil prevailing the last half is a weak attempt at justice. Acting was good, writing was pathetic!
The Vast of Night (2019)
OMG.....Annoying!
I didn't get more than 10 minutes into this movie before I had to turn it off. The main female character was SO annoying. Her character didn't shut her mouth for the first 10-15 minutes talking so much you couldn't make out what she was saying. I mean she didn't take a breath! To add to the irritation her voice was grating..... like fingernails on a chalkboard. I don't know, this could beca great storyline but I could not tolerate this character for another minute.
Innan vi dör (2017)
Wasted Potential
The first season is far better than the second. Typical protagonist crime family that seems to be untouchable. The big payoff for fans was the death of a major crime family leader. The usual female/male cop team that have serious flaws and dysfunctional families. The son of the female cop cannot decide if he wants to be a good person or a criminal. Season two is a bit of a disaster. Said son returns from his hideout location and proceeds to waiver between being good or being bad. Having dumped his pregnant girlfriend he ops for a much older unattractive crime leader. Mom cop shoots and kills crime leader girlfriend so cops son disowns mom. Says he could care less about what happens to mom and leaves town again. Let's hope he stays gone! Never seen such a worthiness character. Probably best if there's not a season three.
Soupçons (2019)
Generous Rating
1 is a generous rating for this series. It should NOT be given another season! The premise of the story left much to be desire with a totally unlikable lead female character, Victorie', a totally self absorbed twit. She is more interested in a rekindled relationship that ended 20 years earlier which was far more important to her than a loving husband and her 2 sons. Willing to crap all over her family she aggressively pursues the lost love, who has been accused of murdering his wife. And to add to the ridiculous plot she is pregnant with the old flames baby. How she knows it's his is a mystery since she is sleeping with him and her cop husband, Samuel. Victorie' treats her husband like he was the offender. She has the affair and yet is portrayed as the victim throughout the series. As the sixth and last episode begins it is a year later than the end of the 5th episode. Long story short she is now living with the old flame and their new son and suffering from postpartum. She imagines killing her baby who is subsequently kidnapped. In yet the most bizarre twist, the murdered wife of lover boy is alive, staged her own death to frame hubby and kidnapped his baby. There are some stupid little side stories weaved into this plot that makes it even more unbelievable than the main plot. The main characters......the two adulterers, are unlikable and disgusting human beings.......but, they end up with their happily ever after while the decent people pay the price.......bad moral to the story.
Sinbad and the War of the Furies (2016)
How Could A Movie Be This......
.....bad? Bad plot, bad costumes, bad cinematography and the worst acting ever! Why do directors think all it takes to make a male lead Sinbad is for the "actor" to have long dark hair and wear a vest with no shirt under it? It fails as a drama, it fails as a fantasy, it fails as a comedy and it fails as entertaining. Most concerning is the money that was wasted on this.....even if it was probably under a thousand dollars. Well at least it was a next step for the high school drama department!
The Ghost Squad (2005)
Unrealized Potential
The potential is there, but it is unrealized. There is way too much emphasis on Elaine Cassidy's character. From the very first episode her character is smarter than everyone else and ALWAYS angry about something. There is great storyline potential in other characters. Jonas Armstrong who is a tremendous actor is underutilized. I love the plotline, but way too much of the same thing. Elaine Cassidy seems to play the same sullen character in whatever show she is in.
Upstream Color (2013)
Head Pain
Some will call it brilliant abstract others might call artistically creative. Those are the folks that want you to believe they are some sort of genius critic, that their cognitive abilities are far superior than the average Joe! Truth is, as with most any critic, they are genuinely full of crap. This movie is nearly two hours of pain, both visually and audibly. No one should take credit for the music score. It is NOTHING more than badly orchestrated noise. The movie or essay as I believe it is, is painful to listen to. The cardboard performances required no acting at all. Of course this was a Film Festival darling! It made absolutely no sense whatsoever, it was as annoying as hell to watch and listen to and makes judges look like they know something we don't. Pretty sure this movie didn't make the buck ninety nine it cost to make it. I wonder if Shane Carruth could write, direct and act in a mainstream story line. I'd like to think so!
Hogar (2020)
Not Believable
Utterly hate movies that make the villain the victor! This movie was SO predictable in so many ways, but a movie where a child happily becomes the daughter of the man that killed her father is sick! And what women that had Mario Casas as a husband be attracted to the truly unattractive murderer of her husband. This movie was bad on every level. SO sorry I wasted my time watching it!
A Reckoning (2018)
Waste of Time
This has got to be the most BORING movie I have EVER watched. The main character is about as exciting as watching grass grow.. I actually found myself cheering for the villain, hoping he'd knock off the heroine, if you want to call her that. I watched all the way till the last 5 minutes hoping something would redeem the time I'd already lost. This movie and the actress were seriously bad!
