Cut, Color, Murder (2022)
Why Was This Movie Just So Bad?
I will start by saying that I do watch a couple of the Hallmark mysteries-like the Aurora Teagarden, and Mystery 101 series (with 101 being far superior to Aurora!). And since I really enjoy (even look forward to) THOSE movies, I thought I would give THIS movie a chance. Oh!!- If I could only get back that 2 hours of my life! As if the basis of the movie, the storyline, and the acting we're not bad enough, the ending was utterly ridiculous! SPOILER: The detective runs into a burning building, saves the girl, and they run straight to the pageant to nab the killer. However, not only do neither of them have and affects from smoke inhalation, the worst part is that no one bothers to even call the fire department to report the burning building- nope! They just head straight to the pageant. OMG! I don't see how this could have gotten any more stupid. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of only one was that, to me, it had just ONE redeeming value: The last scene, the photograph... I kind of liked that cliffhanger. That said, however, even though the intent of the cliffhanger was to hook you into watching the next installment of the series, I can say most assuredly that I am not going to do that.
The Gilded Age (2022)
WONDERFUL!!!!!
I know that there have only been three episodes so far, but each one continues to be better than the last. The story is delving deeper and I am enjoying each and every minute! The history, the society, the glamour, the gorgeous settings and costumes are, without a doubt, BREATHTAKING. The stories are multi- layered and we are just beginning to peel back the onion. I love the name dropping, the history of it all, the society etiquettes, and everything about this show. Yes, there are many throwbacks to Downton Abbey, but The Gilded Age seems more mature. I am so enjoying Mrs. Russell and her wrath. I love the polite, yet undercutting dialogue. I love the scenery. I love the sets. I love the costumes. And, so far, I love the entire production! I cannot wait to see where this all goes!! I highly recommend The Gilded Age-It's fabulous!
Next Stop, Christmas (2021)
THIS is What a Hallmark Xmas Movie SHOULD be Like!!
After watching the disappointing Coyote Creek Hallmark movie-which was nothing more than 10 OLD Hallmark movies rehashed into yet another one and therefore, blah and boring-Next Stop, Christmas was a real joy!! This charming movie is so refreshing and fun! I enjoyed it from beginning to end, and it will be one to watch again in the future. I loved the cast (ESPECIALLY Lyndsy Fonseca and Christopher Lloyd, but loved seeing Erika Slezak and Lea Thompson, as well - what FUN!!). The storyline was different and fresh, with just the right amount of magic and charm! THIS is what a Hallmark Christmas movie SHOULD be!
Coyote Creek Christmas (2021)
Rehashed Theme, Done A Hundred Times Now
I look forward to Hallmark Christmas movies, like so many of us do. But lately, the stories are just refurbished and rehashed from other movies over and over and over. Coyote Creek is no exception. It's not even that great on its own, but the fact that Hallmark writers can't seem to come up with anything more original than this is disappointing. Still, the movie would have been better if not for two things: Paige had absolutely no reason to be angry with Dylan! Her parents INSTRUCTED him not to tell her about selling the Inn, and it was in no way his job or position to tell her. It was up to her parents. That entire premise for the storyline and her being angry with him was so, SO frustrating! Lately, this seems to be the Hallmark theme: Boy meets girl; boy keeps a secret and girl finds out a day (or an hour) before he has a chance to tell her; girl breaks it off and says she can't trust him ever again! Sooooo stupid!! It's not like he even LIED to her- he simply didn't tell her news that wasn't HIS news to tell! Also, I have to add that, in my opinion, it's just getting silly the way that Hallmark now throws in some token gay-relationship love story into so many of their movies. It added nothing to the story and was just filler. It would be different if that relationship held any value or point to the story, but it this side story was only put into the movie so that Hallmark's conscience could be clear that they had covered all the politically-correct social bases: Interracial couple, check; Gay couple, check. I am not, by any means, a homophobe. I have many friends who are gay, as well as a niece, whom I adore. I love and respect them all dearly. My opinion, as far as this movie is concerned, has absolutely nothing to do with homophobia. I'm just getting so tired of Hallmark throwing gay relationships in on the side as a token, for no other reason than solely because it seems "politically correct".
Overall, the movie was kinda cute, but it really was just rehashed old Hallmark movies, taking place at a new Inn, with different actors.
The Art of Us (2017)
THE ARTWORK
8 stars for the beautiful art work. Many people are searching for the name of the artist of the original paintings. I searched as well, until I actually looked at the credits. The artist IS given credit for the original art. Her name is Lori Goldberg. Well I cannot find the painting of "The Kiss", (which I am sure is not only my favorite, but for many others, as well), many of her pieces can be found.
