The Flash: Family Matters, Part 2 (2021)
One good thing
The one thing that was good about this episode, is that it wrapped up the awful first half of this even worse season. Nothing made sense. (Even for this show it didn't.) The writers went all over the place with the storyline and at the same time it felt like a lot must have happened off screen, since many character decisions did not make sense. I'm still not sure if I understood everything correctly, but that is probably because my brain failed to keep paying attention because the whole season was weird and lame.
And no, usually I am not this negative about television. Especially not about shows that I like. With characters that I like. But here, they really went the wrong direction. Please tell me that the second half of the season, we'll have the Flash back!
The Letter for the King (2020)
Nice series, terrible ending
Did have lots of fun watching the show. Have no trouble seeing the series as a different piece of art then the book. I do understand that people who wanted to see the original story are disappointed. But that was announced a long time ago, already.
As I said: really enjoyed watching this show. But the ending was more than terrible. Turns out: the one thing the whole show was about - the letter - is not important at all. Tiuri arriving in time: not important.
The one thing that was important was Lavinia arriving. But the twist that she was magic was both predictable ánd made no sense at all.
And the other kids really trying to be in time, but Lavinia wasn't with them. And then instantly was...? So why was everything they did so important? Why is the series called The Letter For The King?
Bad ending to something that's started so well... Which makes me say: the book wás better. Not because I think we should compare, but because the plot made sense. There was good dramaturgy there...
But maybe they tried to copy that from Game Of Thrones?
Doctor Who: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror (2020)
Finally a real doctor who story, again!
Finally, a story that felt like watching a Who-episode...
The episode felt like they stole ingredients from other episodes from the last 15 years, and that worked.
Tesla was an amazing character. As genius as Shakespeare, with the likability and brokenness of Vincent van Gogh.
Using the Tardis again: good.
Wellplayed historical figures: good.
Villain: could've been better, but good.
Still think that 3 companions is too many. I do like Jody Wittaker as doctor, but also hope there is gonna be more to her... Feel like the bad writing of the last 1,5 season don't do her justice.
Second episode in de Chibnall-era that was well written. The other one was Kerblam!... Both not written by the man himself.
Heard he doesn't care about the bad reviews on the internet, but maybe he should...?
