Family Practice Mysteries: Coming Home (2024)
A good add to a fleet of Hallmark Mysteries
I enjoy most of the Hallmark Mysteries. Some are better than others, and all follow a bit of a formula, but the twisted and turns in each is different. The actors, almost without exception, are strong personalities that fit the roles well. Both the female and male leads and supporting actors bring excitement to their characters.
It's great to see new mysteries and this one seems real with its depiction of a military vet returning to civilian life. This will be a great addition, though we still miss some of our favorites like Gourmet Detective and Mystery 101. I look forward to seeing this and more of the coming mysteries on Hallmark.
A Whitewater Romance (2024)
Too much Busby
The premise is fine, but typically formulaic. While I'm sure Cindy Busby is very nice, it seems she's caught in the same formula and it's very tiring. After a while, all I can hear is her squeaky voice whining about some challenge she's facing.
This could have been a much better movie with a different actress, hopefully, someone that displays more bravado. The writers should work to break the formula and incorporate a little less cutesy and more drama. I don't specifically dislike the happy ending, but the route to get there seems like a hike in a flat trail, whereas a good hike incorporates hills, narrow passes, and tripping hazards. Let's see more like that.
Bringing Christmas Home (2023)
Sub par for Jill Wagner and cast
One of the poorest TV movies I've seen in a while. Plot was lacking any real quality of excitement or interest. Far too formulaic with little to redeem it. The plot twists were more like slight wrinkles.
Continuity seemed poor as well. The box that held the uniform jacket kept changing size. Looked like a shirt box in several shots, then miraculously gets thick enough to hold a uniform jacket. The plot focused on the jacket, yet you rarely saw it in any detail.
The romantic subplot with the lead's friend and the soldier was the only highlight.
Actors looked like they were going through the motions, which is not up to their usual standard.
The "Christian" theme at the end was heavy-handed and unnecessary, especially given the secular discussion of fate earlier in the movie.
