Beau Is Afraid (2023)
Fascinating movie, excellent acting and visuals. Ending that left me feeling like none of it meant anything.
This movie was quite a trip. Were taken on a journey leaving the viewer more confused with every step Beau takes hoping that hell finally reach a place that doesn't add any more craziness to his tumultuous path. This makes for an entertaining story where nothing seems to make sense. Unfortunately, 2+ hours in and he is still encountering what can only be described as illusions that reflect his inner turmoil. And finally, it ends, with another "illusion." There is no reward for the viewer in ways of an ending or any rational for why any of this was happening. It's really just a scared guy encountering illusions that perpetuate him being afraid. I'm sure it'll appease his fans as he created another "weird" movie for them but in my opinion that's all he wanted this movie to be, so it felt unsatisfying once it ended as that. Felt like I was watching Peewee Hermans big adventure.
The Expanse: Winnipesaukee (2021)
Not thrilled about the future of the show.
This is the episode before the finale and things are moving at a snails pace leaving me not too hopeful for the series as a whole. This episode we have Amos and his cohorts fixing a ship for an entire episode and meeting some servants and Paul Blart the island cop. Paul didn't like that they were mean to him so he decides to shoot a bunch of people. Naomi drinks some water droplets and cries for a little. Avaserala is told she might become the president. Bottom-line I feel the pace and writing is pretty weak. I understand some people enjoy long dialogue about feelings but that's not what I got into this show for. I hope the finale redeems the show for me. Either way I'll probably keep watching it lol.
The Expanse: Hard Vacuum (2021)
Can only take so much of one thing.
My general opinion of this season is "not good." This season has lost the thrill and wow moments other seasons had on a episode to episode basis. I was in a mood that allowed me to enjoy the previous episodes' acting and dialogue but this episode is just dragging the Naomi arc for far too long. It would be fine if anything interesting at all was happening but there are just no wow moments that a sci-fi show requires. The shortcoming of this season is the diminished writing.
The Expanse: Oyedeng (2021)
Strong dialogue, cool action scene, anxiety inducing cliff hanger
This episode was really heavy on Naomi's' situation. Loved the the dialogue between Naomi and her son and the dilemma she and her family are going through. The episode was not really action packed but the action scene was fairly intense and the dialogue made up for it a bit. The cliff hanger scene was the first cliff hanger that I was satisfied with in a couple of episodes.
