The Year Earth Changed (2021 TV Movie)

Goosebumps, tears and smiles
9 July 2023
What an incredible film! IF there are any doubters out there about improvements we can make in our relationship with Nature so that we can share our home equally, this will dispel those doubts immediately. - Another marvel from Sir David Attenborough. But this one has enormous future impact and should be required viewing by every human on this planet. Can't you imagine the excitement and HOPE our children can experience with this knowledge and awareness of our role in the world. It takes my breath away. Our future prospects look far brighter than I ever would have guessed. Thank you, Apple TV.

Intriguing, fascinating and well done

"Queen Charlotte" was human, compassionate, and complex enough that I binged it in one day.

Overlaying 21st century's unresolved issues made this series very strong. I loved all the characters and their foibles. The ending was gentle but not without tears. Shonda taught as yet again that a life without love, purpose and hope is not a life.

Compared to the earlier campy "Bridgerton" series, "Queen Charlotte" made us care/not care about Shonda's re-invented historical figures. At it's best I was emotionally drawn into the story explore the back stories of pivotal characters of the "Bridgerton" series.

I didn't think of James Corden once!

A mystical, sorrowful tale of several lives inhabited by two characters who deeply embrace the wistful. Would that we all could.

Fantastic "super hero" movie
14 November 2022
This fantastic series proves you don't need gimmicks, inane story lines, ceaseless CGI, and minimal dialog to make a super-hero movie. Cordelia was the best super hero I have ever seen (male or female) - intelligent, thoughtful, driven (but not insane).

Can't compliment "The English" on Prime enough. Strong story and character development. Gorgeous photography! The screenplay was powerfully written, casting was perfect and the performances were, each one, solid.

Emily Blunt was fabulous. But when is she not! More, more, more productions like this, Prime. You know, the ones that pull you in on every level!

Don't waste your time or $.
17 July 2022
"Persuasion" is my favorite Austen book. This "film" will not ruin that yet it has "long wanted it's time with me!" I will not finish watching it after three previous attempts. -. What on earth were these people thinking. I can only assume no one within 500 miles ever read the book.

What would we do to save ourselves and our loved ones from grief?
30 April 2022
Everything about this film was sensitive, beautiful and oddly comforting. The premise is a bit far fetched but believable: perhaps the beautiful moods of British Columbia combined with a stable future laid that foundation. Saving ourselves and our loved ones from the eternal grief of loss presented too human options that still included grief. Nothing can stop a swan song no matter what we try or wish for. All in all this film spoke to me in many ways and recalled memories of loss over my lifetime. They were given a tender embrace.

Domina (2021– )

Sandwiched between the epic HBO Series "Rome" and PBS Series "I Claudius"
23 October 2021
What a great storytelling bridge for fans of both "Rome" and "I Claudius"! But Livia! She is probably the most manipulative, brilliant and idealistic of all the patrician Roman women depicted in either of the preceding series. Period! When Livia says her efforts are not for only for reconstituting the Roman republic, nor is it simply for her attainment if power - "It's for everything!" -- believe her!

I was so unhappy when HBO didn't renew "Rome" but now it's a terrific prequel for "Domina". The sets, staging, acting, everything about "Domina" echoed those wonderful components in "Rome". Just flash forward 20 yrs or so and you're there.

Thanks, EPIX. Please make Season 2 asap!

Joyful makeover of sexist classic
6 September 2021
My sister and I watched this version yesterday. We both loved the joy and exuberance of Amazon Prime's "Cinderella" facelift. If you had a smile on your face or found yourself singing along then this film accomplished its objective. Great 21st century entertainment for the entire family.

Good series from Australia
16 April 2021
This is a bit slow moving and I am not sure what the heroine (Joanna Foggart) is all about except "I want what I want whenever". Need more backstory on her since she didn't make me care that much about her. My favorite character in the series is "Shay". Really fine acting making the character empathetic, sympathetic and likable. - There was a great chance here to really delve into the impacts of climate, income inequality, and racism but it never really happened. It was an interesting story but could have been so much more.

Which are the Hostiles? A vivid expose with wonderful performances by both Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike.

Just shoot me!

There is nothing, zip, nada of value in this memorialized vanity project. HGTV, get a grip. Where's the value to my life or anyone else's especially in the middle of a pandemic? Please. Stop!

Disappointing
26 July 2020
This attempt to tell the complex story of Marie Curie was nothing more than a directorial vanity piece. Worse yet, its combined focused on her sex life and the terrors-to-come of radiation made it feel as if she was/is solely responsible for millions of deaths from nuclear bombs, disasters and accidents.

I did not like this story line. We needed to see far more about HER life, e.g. the circumstances that brought her to France from Poland, or more insight into her struggles, as a woman, to actually conduct her science.

The film itself was atmospheric but so much of it was wasted on NOT advancing her story.

Sad effort. Just sad.
